South Africa is unveiling some incredible new Pop talent as 21-year-old Britney Meistre releases her debut single and music video for ‘Where Are You Now?’ today.
The debut single sees one of SA’s most-loved artists, Lee Cole, step in as producer on ‘Where Are You Now?’. No newcomer to producing himself, Lee has been producing his own music for years, churning out hits such as ‘Pink Dragons’, ‘Honey, Let Me In’ and most recently ‘Emotional’ – all chart toppers across local radio.
‘Where Are You Now?’ launches the musical career of Britney Meistre, who has placed her original song in the hands of one of SA’s finest composers, vocalists, and producers.
Britney absolutely loved working with Lee on her debut, which was recorded in his home studio. She talks about the process of recording, saying“I am very blessed that I had the opportunity to work with someone who inspires me. Producing comes so naturally to him and he truly does have a God gifted talent when it comes to anything that has to do with music – from vocals, to instrument, and now even production. I had an idea of what I wanted the song to sound like and the message I wanted to get across, but the song would never have been where it is today without Lee’s creative input. Things just worked and flowed so well and easily while we were writing the song and producing it. It was an amazing experience, that I will treasure forever. Hopefully this is the start of something great. Lee also plays a hug role in my life, not only is he a close friend, but he is also a huge inspiration to me as a South African Artist. He has achieved so much, and I am so happy for him. “
Praising Lee capturing what Britney wanted for the song, she turns to the inspiration and message behind the track and explains that “’Where Are You Now?’ is a song for all the women out there. I feel that it is a very relatable song that people will be able to find a connection to, in some way or another.”
This may be her debut release, but Britney has been preparing for this moment all her life. From a young girl that grew up in the south of Johannesburg, music ran through her veins. With family photos of her as a 3-year-old holding a mic and banging on a keyboard, the love for music was there when she could hardly talk or walk. As a teen she participated in any and every show or performance she could get involved in for fun. By the age of 16 she entered Idols SA and was eliminated just short of the Top 16, which was an amazing achievement for such a young novice talent. After her time on Idols SA, her drive and motivation for music was bursting at the seams and since then she’s been perfecting her craft and writing songs. Fast forward 5 years and now at the age of 21 years old, she releases her debut single ‘Where Are You Now?’.
“I am incredibly excited for people to hear my ORIGINAL music, a song that is very close to my heart. I have only ever put out covers, so I feel like now people will be able to identify me as an artist, which is very exciting for me. I am also excited for people to find a connection to the song and relate to it, because essentially that is why music exists: it is a beautiful escape that we are all very privilege to have, whether it be to create it or listen to it. Music is a gift from God,’ exclaims an ecstatic Britney Meistre who can’t wait for people to hear her debut.
