Watch the music video for “Valley Girl”

What happens when the girl who once dreamed of escaping her hometown comes back to tell the story? Amy Tjasink is taking us back to school.
The South African singer-songwriter returns to the corridors, classrooms and memories of her youth with the official music video for “Valley Girl”, the nostalgic and deeply personal title track from her latest album.
Filmed at Fish Hoek High School, the vibrant new video is packed with young talent, friendship, music, choreography and all the awkward excitement of being a teenager with a dream, while delivering a powerful message about growing up, finding your voice and learning to be proud of where you come from.
Because sometimes, you can spend years dreaming about getting out… only to discover that home was part of the dream all along.
And today, Amy isn’t trying to leave the “Valley Girl” behind.
She’s owning it.

A TRUE LOCAL COLLABORATION
The music video brings together an exciting cast of young South African talent, including Sophia Frank, Eva Marie, Mbali Rose, Kelsey Maggot, Keely Crocker and Gabriela Dos Santos, who also created the choreography.
Real Fish Hoek High School students, including rising theatre talents Emma Porter and Arun Bothma, also feature in the video, while the school’s Backstage Team worked on sound and lighting for the variety concert scenes.
For Amy, involving the school community was an important part of telling the story.
“This video became so much more than simply recreating my high school experience,” says Amy. “It became a celebration of the community, friendships and people who shape us — and a reminder that wherever life takes you, home will always be part of your story.”
One particularly special moment sees Sophia Frank appear as a fellow student auditioning for the school variety concert. Watching another talented performer immediately sparks Amy’s character’s self-doubt — a feeling familiar to anyone who has ever wondered whether they are good enough to pursue their dream.
The video also features Emma Porter, who first met Amy as a young girl when Amy was performing at an event. Years later, their reunion on the “Valley Girl” set created an unexpected full-circle moment that perfectly mirrors the song’s themes of growing up and coming home.
Ultimately, “Valley Girl” is a celebration of dreams, self-belief, local talent and belonging.
And after all the dreaming of what might lie beyond home, Amy’s message is simple:
“I’m proud to be a Valley Girl.”
