Long before Neon Dreams, JUNO Award-winning frontman Frank Kadillac was a kid in the back seat of his mother’s car, turning up the radio whenever K-OS’ “Sunday Morning” came on.
Twenty years later, that same song found its way back to him and this time as an invitation to sing it.
What started with a bootleg remix by Vancouver producer SEJO ILAW and a call from Toronto DJ and producer 4KORNERS has become a full-circle collaboration, bringing Neon Dreams, 4KORNERS and SEJO ILAW together to give the Canadian classic a new life through Afro House, melodic electronic production and global dance energy.
For South African audiences who are already big fans of Neon Dreams, “Sunday Morning” offers a different side of the band, while connecting Kadillac’s deeply personal relationship with the song to the musical world of two Canadian artists whose work has been shaped by South Africa’s influential electronic music culture.
For Neon Dreams frontman Frank Kadillac, the song is more than a cover: it is a piece of his childhood returning in a completely new form.
“When I was a kid driving around in the back seat of my mother’s car, there was an artist I used to love hearing on the radio. As soon as I heard ‘every day is Saturday night but I can’t wait for Sunday morning,’ I asked my mom to turn it up.”
Nearly 20 years later, Kadillac received a call from his friend working on a new version of the song. The idea quickly evolved from a remix into something more personal: Kadillac was invited to sing it.
“When I went and looked at the lyrics, I was shook by how deep the song actually was,” he says. “The young version of me was moved by the beat and melody, and now I was moved by the words.”
Kadillac describes the song’s central character as someone living his best life but still ready for a new chapter: “escaping the matrix he put himself into.” “This is me, haha,” Kadillac says jokingly.
That personal connection became the emotional foundation for the new recording, while 4KORNERS and SEJO ILAW transformed the track for a global dance audience.
The project began when SEJO ILAW created an Afro House-inspired bootleg of “Sunday Morning” and sent it to 4KORNERS. The two producers began rebuilding and expanding the production before bringing in Neon Dreams for a new vocal performance.
The result is a fresh interpretation that preserves the emotional spirit of the original while introducing Afro House rhythms, melodic electronic production and a distinctly global dance-music energy.
The collaboration also carries a strong connection to South Africa. SEJO ILAW has spent years building relationships within South Africa’s electronic-music community through his Vancouver event series Sweet & Sawa, while 4KORNERS brings more than 15 years of international DJ experience to the project. Neon Dreams, meanwhile, have already developed a dedicated South African following through hit songs, touring, headline performances and Frank now living in Cape Town as well.
For Kadillac, the motivation was ultimately simple: “My heart told me I should do this. I believe music is meant to be shared.”
He hopes the new version can introduce the song to a new generation and audience, and turn “Sunday Morning” into an anthem of freedom once again.
“My hope is for our fans to feel the energy of this song and be moved by the lyrics just as I was as a kid.”
“Sunday Morning” by 4KORNERS, SEJO ILAW & Neon Dreams is released Sunday, 11 October 2026.
