With just over a week to go, anticipation is building for one of Durban’s most anticipated Women’s Day celebrations as Old Mutual Music at the Lake returns to the picturesque Durban Botanic Gardens on Sunday, 9 August 2026 for a special National Women’s Day concert headlined by the iconic Lira and the soulful Nomfundo Moh.
Set against the tranquil beauty of Africa’s oldest surviving botanic garden, the concert promises an unforgettable afternoon of music, inspiration and celebration as South Africans honour National Women’s Day and mark the 70th anniversary of the historic 1956 Women’s March, when more than 20,000 courageous women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria in peaceful protest against the extension of the Pass Laws.
The occasion is made even more meaningful by the return of Lira, whose own journey has become a powerful symbol of courage, hope and resilience. Following the stroke she suffered in 2022, Lira has inspired audiences across the country with her remarkable recovery and triumphant return to the stage. Her acclaimed Still Here performances have celebrated healing, perseverance and the transformative power of music, making her appearance at Old Mutual Music at the Lake a fitting tribute to the strength and resilience of South African women.
Joining her is award-winning singer-songwriter Nomfundo Moh, one of South Africa’s brightest contemporary stars, whose heartfelt storytelling and soulful sound have captured audiences nationwide. Together, the two artists promise a moving and uplifting afternoon celebrating the women who continue to shape families, communities and the nation.
