At a time when much of the world feels increasingly fragmented, South African songwriter and storyteller Carol-Ann Meltzer is choosing a different conversation. Released under her creative music project Khazimula, the new single and video ‘On a Dream‘ arrives as a heartfelt reminder that some of humanity’s greatest achievements begin long before there is a clear path forward. They begin with a dream.

Performed by Megan Marks and produced by acclaimed South African musician and producer Mark Beling of Mean Mr Mustard, ‘On a Dream’ blends cinematic pop textures with adult contemporary songwriting to create a moving reflection on hope, connection and the courage to imagine something better.
Built around the idea that we are all becoming something greater than we are today, the song explores the distance between possibility and reality, encouraging listeners to trust the unfolding journey and embrace the colours of their own unique story.
“‘On a Dream’ is about believing in what is possible before you can fully see it,” says Carol-Ann Meltzer. “It is about holding onto hope, staying open to growth and recognising that every meaningful journey begins with a vision of something more.”
The release marks the second single from Khazimula, a multifaceted creative project founded by Meltzer that combines music, poetry, storytelling, reflection and future social upliftment initiatives. Derived from the isiZulu word meaning “to shine” or “to radiate light”, Khazimula was born from a desire to create work that inspires discovery, connection and personal growth.
While deeply personal in its origins, ‘On a Dream’ speaks to something universal. Its themes of unity, empathy and shared purpose resonate far beyond the boundaries of genre, inviting listeners to imagine a future where differences are embraced and human connection takes centre stage.
The song’s soaring melodies and emotional honesty are brought to life through Megan Marks’ expressive vocal performance, while Mark Beling’s production balances intimacy and scale, allowing the song’s message to unfold with cinematic warmth and clarity.
For Meltzer, the release represents another chapter in a journey that began years ago with notebooks full of lyrics, melodies captured on a small dictaphone and an enduring belief in the power of stories to bring people together.
Today, that vision continues to expand through Khazimula’s growing catalogue of original music, curated playlists, reflections and forthcoming publishing projects, all connected by a simple invitation: Let Your Colours Shine!

Biography – Khazimula (Carol-Ann Meltzer)
Carol-Ann Meltzer is a South African songwriter, storyteller, and the creator of Khazimula, a musical, literary, and social upliftment journey centred on meaning, light, creativity, and human connection. Through music, poetry, reflection, storytelling, playlists, publishing, and future social impact initiatives, she creates work that encourages discovery, connection, and personal growth.
The name Khazimula, derived from the isiZulu word meaning “to shine” or “to radiate light,” was born during a visit to the SAMRO offices while Carol-Ann was searching for a stage name. The word immediately resonated with her vision of hope, possibility, colour, and the belief that every person has their own unique light to share.
Music has been part of Carol-Ann’s life since childhood. She participated in school productions, attended the Performing Arts Workshop in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, and spent years collecting melodies, lyrics, and ideas on a small dictaphone. Those recordings eventually formed the foundation of Love It Together, a collection of twenty-four original songs developed with arranger and producer Bryan Schimmel. She also completed coursework in Lyric Writing with the Berklee College of Music.
A pivotal chapter began when longtime friend Neil Solomon introduced her to producer and musician Mark Beling of Mean Mr Mustard. Along the way, she also collaborated with songwriter and vocal coach Anne Steyn, who co-wrote ‘Tomorrow’ and created the first arrangement of ‘On a Dream’. Vocalist Megan Marks later joined the project, bringing Carol-Ann’s songs to life with warmth, depth, and emotional honesty.
Today, Khazimula is releasing original recordings performed by Megan Marks and produced by Mark Beling, while continuing to expand into storytelling, publishing, curated playlists, and social upliftment initiatives. At the heart of the project is a simple invitation that guides Carol-Ann’s work: Let Your Colours Shine!
