Sandilands and the production team from Red Pepper Pictures received an Emmy nomination in September. The Emmys are internationally recognized as one of the highest honors in the television industry, since the selections are conducted by industry peers. Sandilands lent his unique voice as a storyteller to the popular reality series Die Brug (The Bridge). It is the first time Afrikaans has been represented in the category “Best International Non-Scripted Entertainment” – a historic moment for Afrikaans television. Less than a year ago, Neil also received an Emmy nomination for his supporting role as General Douglas Abbott in Netflix’s Sweet Tooth.

Neil’s second album, Allegaarkie vir ’n Askeet, recently earned him his second South African Music Award (SAMA) nomination. This achievement further solidifies his position as a respected voice in the music industry. This album captivated critics and audiences alike with its unique lyrics, unconventional compositions, and honest storytelling. The album is infused with Neil’s comedic yet philosophical take on the human condition.

During the winter of 2024, Neil wrapped his second highly successful and ambitious nationwide tour, titled Land & Sand. The tour spanned 40 days and 40 nights, featuring 36 performances across the far reaches of the country. Joining him were renowned musicians Schalk Joubert (bass guitar), Frank Freeman (electric guitar), and Ronan Skillen (percussion). During the tour, Neil also launched his latest album, Land & Sand, which shares the tour’s name.

This, his third album, again showcases his sharp observations of the ordinary course of living during extraordinary times. Neil muses the content may be a hint more personal than his previous albums. The album was recorded in just three weeks, start to finish, at the iconic Bellville Studios. Theo Crous, of Springbok Nude Girls fame, once again co-produced, as with Sandilands’ previous albums & EP’s.

Sandilands is also gracing our television screens again with the second installment of Die Groot Niks (The Big Nothing), currently airing on kykNET. This popular series developed a cult following, and Neil’s role as host further establishes him as one of South Africa’s most versatile artists.

The number 2 seems to be a recurring theme in Neil Sandilands’ recollection of 2024 – his second Emmy nomination, second SAMA nomination, second music tour, second season of Die Groot Niks, two continents (South Africa & USA), two languages (Afrikaans & English), two disciplines (performance & music). These number 2 moments are more than mere repetition – they reflect Neil’s consistent growth, his                 dedication as an artist, and his ability to approach every step as the deepening and broadening of his talent and vision.

In a time of rapid global transformation and uncertainty, Sandilands offers resilience. He inspires his audience to simply view the world differently. Neil’s journey as an actor, musician, and storyteller has entered its next chapter.
