Cape Town audiences are in for a treat, as the heart-achingly beautiful and much beloved musical Calling Us Home premieres its all-new International Version in the city – for one week only – before heading to International shores.

Shy Music, the Cape Town based Musical Theatre Production Company making headlines both locally and abroad, are thrilled to announce that tickets for the very short 2023 season of Calling Us Home are now on sale!

You can grab your tickets for the season at Artscape Theatre from 15th to 19th February 2023 right now by clicking on Computicket or by calling Artscape Dial-A-Seat on 021 421-7695, but best you move sharply as there are only very limited tickets available for the 5 scheduled performances – Calling Us Home is preparing for its International Tour and this will be the last time SA Audiences can see this homegrown show for a while.

Says Composer/Writer Alice Gillham; “It wouldn’t have felt right to any of us to have completed the international version of Calling Us Home and not share it with our South African audiences first!

For me it is always a thrill and a privilege to work with our talented South African artists, crews and creatives – they bring a unique energy and a spirit which I have never experienced anywhere else in the world.”

Gillham continues; “Over the last few months we have welcomed wonderful international creatives onto the team and begun to work with Calling Us Home American Director, Peter Flynn, and I truly cannot wait to share what we have been creating together with all of you… ”

With a prestigious cast from both South Africa and America, the re-worked production is directed by acclaimed New York director Peter Flynn. He will be traveling to South Africa to work with the creative team, including local talents Celeste Botha (Choreography), Nadine Minnaar (Set Design), Louis Minnaar (Animation Design) alongside Mark Malherbe (Sound Design) – amongst others still to be announced – to bring this beautiful story of courage and love, to life.

Grace, an African Princess – fleeing a devastating war in her homeland, arrives penniless, in the freezing, grimy docklands of an American city.

The underworld of this city is ruled ruthlessly by the evil gang lord Ivan who, after an unexpected encounter, has set his sights on Grace – her spectacular beauty has dazzled him!

But another has already captured her heart…

The street-smart Rafael, a young construction worker with bold ambitions, is determined to win her love. But will his dreams lead only to tragedy…

Forced to adapt to a very different world, Grace becomes friends with Rafael’s feisty and reckless sister Isabella. Together they must survive and keep their dreams alive until Grace can find a way to return to her beloved homeland…

This musical will bewitch you with its spectacular music and move you to feel joy, heartbreak and compassion as it celebrates love, the triumph of hope and the invincible strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

South Africa, this is your last chance to see Calling Us Home before it tours to America and Europe.

Tickets range from R190 to R390 and are available immediately for those who move fast!

Calling Us Home will preview at Artscape Theatre in Cape Town from Wednesday 15th February, with the Gala Performance taking place on Saturday, 18th February and the final Cape Town performance on Sunday, 19th February 2023.
