Meet the International Electronic Music Headliners Coming to Mzansi with fabric London This January

Some of the biggest names in contemporary electronic music are heading to South Africa this January as fabric London returns to Mzansi for two major shows in Johannesburg and Cape Town, bringing an international line-up of house, techno and electronic music talent to the country.

Taking place in partnership with Sub Sahara, the two-night takeover will see Daniel Avery, Desiree, HAAi and Midland perform at Johannesburg’s Carfax on Friday 15 January, before heading to Cape Town’s historic Castle of Good Hope on Saturday 16 January, where they will be joined by Heidi.

For electronic music fans, the line-up represents an opportunity to experience artists with deep connections to London’s influential club scene, alongside one of South Africa’s own exports to the international dancefloor.

Daniel Avery: A fabric favourite finally comes to South Africa

One of the most recognisable names on the line-up, Daniel Avery has been part of the fabric story for more than a decade. The British producer and DJ has played the legendary London club numerous times and released ‘FABRICLIVE 66’ in 2012.

Best known for his acclaimed ‘Drone Logic’  album and his work through Phantasy Sound, Avery has developed a reputation for atmospheric, driving electronic music that moves between techno, house and more experimental territory.

January will mark his South African debut, making the fabric shows his first opportunity to play for local audiences. “My first time in South Africa and what better way than with the fabric family. I’ll see you down the front,” says Avery.

Desiree: A homecoming moment for local superstar

For South African audiences, Desiree brings a particularly interesting story to the line-up. Born and raised in South Africa, the DJ has gone on to establish herself within London’s house and techno scene, developing a genre-spanning sound and building her own platform through MMINO.

Her appearance at Carfax will be something of a homecoming, with Desiree now playing an increasingly international circuit and rarely appearing in Johannesburg.

HAAi: One of electronic music’s most distinctive voices

Australian-born, London-based artist HAAi has become one of the more distinctive figures in contemporary electronic music, moving freely between house, techno, breaks and experimental sounds.

A regular behind the decks at fabric, she has become known for sets that refuse to stay within a single genre, making her one of the artists to watch across both South African dates. The January shows will mark HAAi’s South African debut.

Midland: Another fabric favourite heads to South Africa for the first time

Another long-standing fabric favourite, Midland has built a reputation for eclectic and unpredictable sets that move across house, techno, electro and everything in between.

His relationship with fabric runs deep, having played the club extensively and delivered ‘FABRICLIVE 94’ in 2017. Like Avery and HAAi, January will mark Midland’s South African debut, giving local electronic music fans the chance to experience one of fabric’s most respected selectors for the first time.

Heidi: A house and techno pioneer

Joining the Cape Town line-up at the Castle of Good Hope is Heidi, a pioneering figure in house and techno who has been closely connected to fabric for many years. From her roots at Phonica Records to her influential Jackathon parties and work with BBC Radio 1, Heidi has played an important role in shaping contemporary club culture and returns to South Africa for the second night of fabric’s 2027 takeover.

Two cities. Two very different fabric experiences.

The Johannesburg event on Friday 15 January will see fabric take over Carfax, one of the city’s most established independent cultural and nightlife spaces. The Newtown venue, which has been part of Johannesburg’s creative scene since 1995, will provide the setting for a full fabric showcase featuring Daniel Avery, Desiree, HAAi and Midland, alongside local artists still to be announced.

The following evening, fabric heads to Cape Town’s Castle of Good Hope for the second time. The historic 17th-century fort will once again be transformed into an immersive electronic music environment, with fabric’s touring visual show using large-scale projection mapping to bring the castle’s walls and courtyards to life.

Daniel Avery, HAAi, Heidi and Midland will headline the Cape Town event, with the local line-up still to be announced. Last year’s Castle of Good Hope event sold out, with the 2027 edition expected to be another major date on Cape Town’s summer electronic music calendar.
