Fast-rising pop talent Max More is turning up the temperature with the release of his brand-new single “Hot & Heavy”, a playful yet emotionally charged track that explores the intoxicating rush of young love, passion, and self-discovery.
At just 20 years old, the singer, songwriter and producer continues to carve out his place in the pop and indie-pop space with honest storytelling and an evolving sound. “Hot & Heavy” sees Max leaning into a slightly more mature direction musically while staying true to the vulnerable, romantic themes that define his artistry.
“‘Hot & Heavy’ the title already gives away a big part of what the song is about, but there’s also a deeper meaning hidden beneath the surface if you read between the lines,” says Max.
Inspired by a real-life romantic experience, the song captures the intensity of falling deeply for someone with the rush of emotion, the magnetic tension between two people, and the fantasies we sometimes build around love. While the relationship that inspired the track didn’t last, the experience became a powerful moment of reflection for the young artist.
“I’m a huge hopeless romantic,” he explains. “I feel things very intensely, and when I fall for someone, I fall deeply. This song explores the thoughts and emotions that come with that, as well as trying to wrap my head around the fantasy I created around that experience.”
Beneath its flirtatious title, “Hot & Heavy” taps into that universal moment of connection and the electric pause when two people lock eyes and everything else fades away. The track balances those emotional undertones with a groove-driven, upbeat energy that invites listeners to lose themselves in the moment.
Musically, the single marks an exciting evolution for Max. Experimenting with new sounds and textures, he crafted a track that feels playful, confident and refreshingly different from his previous releases.
“I wanted people to feel the groove and let the music take over,” he says. “It’s fun, light-hearted but intense – the kind of song that makes you tap your feet, sink into the feeling, and hopefully walk away with a smile on your face.”
Max More most recently made waves with his previous single “High,” which gained significant traction on 5FM, landing on the 5FM Top 40 and climbing all the way into the Top 5. The achievement cemented him as one of the young emerging artists to watch on the South African pop scene.
Music has been part of Max’s life for as long as he can remember. Growing up in a musically inclined family, he immersed himself in choir, acting, and stage performance throughout his school years before committing fully to a music career in high school. Since finishing school in 2024, he has taken the leap to share his music with the world, spending the past few years writing, producing, and refining his craft.
Now entering his second year as an independent artist, Max says he is more motivated than ever to discover his sound and connect with listeners through honest storytelling.
“For me, music is therapy,” he says. “It’s how I process life and dealing with love, heartbreak, and figuring out who I am. My goal is to share a part of myself with people so that when they hear my songs, they feel seen and understood.”
