The Zimbabwean-born world traveller and storyteller, So Kindly, releases his much anticipated single “Easy On Me”, the fourth and final for a series of songs that he wrote and recorded in Los Angeles, USA, with award winning producer Jon Gilbert (Mt. Joy, Flipturn, Pete Yorn, The Kills, Alina Baraz, Banks, The Circle Jerks, and The Melvins).

A rush of warm instrumentals, percussive sprinkles, groove-centric bass and distinct, earthy vocals telling it how it is. So Kindly’s musicscape is reminiscent of Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits and Paul Simon; all the while harnessing the essentials of modern radio-ready contemporary music.

“Easy On Me” deals with conflicting desires within a relationship. On one side, there’s a longing for stability and commitment — a desire to settle down. On the other, there’s a yearning for exploration and adventure.

So Kindly explains, saying “To me, it is ultimately about the complex emotions of navigating these divergent paths and the struggle to reconcile personal dreams with the shared journey of a relationship. It’s a reflection on the choices we make and the sacrifices we sometimes face when our goals and desires don’t align perfectly with those of our partners.”

So Kindly expands on his writing process of the song, where he spent a few weeks in an old caravan parked in his Parent’s driveway, the best solution for some solitude to focus when in a full family home, he quips “It wasn’t exactly Abbey Road, but it was a private space where I could get to work.

He continues “I had about five different versions of the song that I had been working on, but when I wrote the guitar hook, that’s when everything fell into place. It was the missing piece I had been looking for. Once I had that hook, it became easy to pull the rest of the song together.”

On working with Jon Gilbert at  his Pasadena studio, So Kindly recalls how he was riding high, and that it was the first record that the pairing worked on together. He goes on to describe their smooth creative flow “I wanted the guitar hook to have an undeniably emotive tone, and I think Jon really nailed that aspect of the production. He is extremely talented at translating the feeling of a demo into a fully finished production. It was amazing to work with him

Following the signing of an exclusive agreement with boutique indie label Tic Tic Bang (home to Sean Koch, Samuel Miller & Mann Friday) 2023, this is the fourth in a series of. So Kindly is currently working on his next project, an EP, due for release in Q2 of 2025. With production happening at Rob Burrel’s new state-of-the-art Bridgenorth Road Studio in Harare, Zimbabwe and with Keith Farquharson producing and engineering, fans can expect another world class project.
