Newcomer indie singer Cape Jay has just released his latest single, “My Own Devices,” today on all major streaming platforms. Following his recent releases, “Golden Lady” and “Not Enough,” this up-and-coming Cape Town-based artist offers another gem to melodic-loving audiences.
True to his storytelling style, Cape Jay captures the vulnerabilities of human compatibility while
exploring one’s place in the world. He delves into the truth of understanding where inner
boundaries must be set to protect the heart’s energy and desires.
For the past 12 years, Cape Jay (Joshua Dempers) has worked on international superyachts,
travelling to remote corners of the planet on expedition voyages. Constantly on the move and
without a permanent home, this song was inspired by his experiences of moving through the world
and falling in and out of love.
As a testament to the delicacy of the heart, Cape Jay commissioned local ink artist Brett Field, also
known as Sketchy Brett, to illustrate and design the artwork for the song’s release. Brett is Cape Jay, photographed by Rimichu Vitu renowned for his quirky interpretations of architectural and lifestyle scenes from around the globe.
While his expertise lies in architectural depictions, it is the people and their relationship to places
and buildings that fuel his passion. Using ink and watercolor techniques on paper, he created icons
that interpret elements of the chorus of “My Own Devices.”
Cape Jay’s intimate songs, which stimulate the soul, resonate with an audience that values
connection through shared life experiences. Fans can stream the single and his previous releases
on all major platforms and follow Cape Jay on social media for updates on upcoming news and
travel journeys.
“This is a song in many ways about exploring love and dealing with
ourselves when we lose it. Love is hard. I think this track captures that
vulnerability and the importance of never giving up on the heart.”
