“WAY DOWN WE GO” HITMAKERS KALEO ARE COMING TO SOUTH AFRICA FOR THE FIRST TIME
One of Iceland’s most internationally acclaimed rock exports, KALEO, is set to make their highly anticipated South African debut – presented by BreakOut Events – bringing their celebrated Way Down We Go Tour to audiences in Cape Town and Johannesburg in February 2027.
Tickets go on sale 9AM Wednesday 14th October 2026 from Webtickets.
The Grammy-nominated band, fronted by the unmistakable voice of Jökull Júlíusson (JJ), will perform their first-ever South African shows at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens in Cape Town on Thursday 4th February 2027, followed by Marks Park in Johannesburg on Saturday 6th February 2027.
Since forming in Mosfellsbær (a suburb of Reykjavik) back in 2012, vocalist and guitarist JJ Julius Son, drummer David Antonsson, bassist Daniel Kristjansson and guitarist Rubin Pollock have built a catalogue that sits comfortably between blues-rock muscle, folk introspection and arena-sized hooks. What began as a local Icelandic phenomenon became a worldwide one with the release of 2016’s A/B, the breakthrough album that delivered enduring singles including ‘Way Down We Go’, ‘All The Pretty Girls’ and ‘No Good’.
The numbers tell part of the story. KALEO have since amassed more than six billion global streams and over 70 international Gold, Platinum and Diamond certifications. No strangers to the world’s biggest stages, their live résumé includes appearances at festivals such as Coachella, Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo, along with sold-out headline tours across North America, Europe and beyond.

With four studio albums to their name including 2025’s Mixed Emotions, KALEO are also one of the most synced bands of all time. Few songs have left a mark quite like ‘Way Down We Go’, which has amassed close to four billion streams worldwide and become a cultural phenomenon, appearing in millions of TikTok videos and countless film, television and advertising campaigns. KALEO have also featured prominently in major series including Yellowstone, The Morning Show, Grey’s Anatomy, Law & Order and Suits, alongside EA Sports franchises such as FIFA, Madden NFL and NHL.
The band’s latest chapter arrives in the wake of the A/B 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, released in June 2026. Expanding on the record that launched them onto the world stage, the Way Down We Go Tour serves as both a celebration of that legacy and a reminder of KALEO’s enduring momentum.
Renowned for a sound that’s both timeless and contemporary, live on stage KALEO are driven by raw energy and emotional intensity, cementing their reputation as one of rock’s most compelling acts.
Their arrival in South Africa marks a major milestone for the band and gives local fans their first opportunity to experience KALEO’s renowned live show on home soil.
“We’ve wanted to come to South Africa for a long time, so finally making it happen means a lot to us. Playing in Cape Town and Johannesburg is going to be really special. We can’t wait to meet everyone and bring our show there for the first time,” say KALEO.
