DIE CENTURION TEATER’S 2026 LINE UP
Scenario Productions announces its highly anticipated 2026 theatre season at Die Centurion Teater – a bold and ambitious line-up that deepens its commitment to developing artists, producing large-scale theatrical experiences, touring original South African work and strengthening the creative ecosystem around the theatre.
Under the banner “Dreaming Bigger, Continuing the Magic — World-Class Theatre in the Heart of the Community,” the 2026 season reflects Scenario’s long-term vision: to build the industry while filling the theatre.
From enchanting children’s productions and dynamic youth musicals to the return of a major Broadway blockbuster, the programme balances scale, excellence and accessibility, anchored by two flagship productions: Hairspray – The Broadway Musical and Peter Pan JR.
“Every year we ask ourselves how we can raise the bar,” says Executive Producer Tiaan Kirsten-Lubbe. “In 2026, we’re doing just that – dreaming bigger, continuing the magic, keeping the momentum and building on past success and enduring vision. It’s not only about creating unforgettable stagings and showcasing super talent – upcoming and established – it’s about creating experiences that last forever in the hearts of our community and audiences. That’s the thing theatre does best.”
HAIRSPRAY – THE BROADWAY MUSICAL

In October 2026, Scenario Productions brings Hairspray back to the professional stage at Die Centurion Teater for the first time in over a decade.
Set in 1960s Baltimore, the high-energy musical follows Tracy Turnblad as she dances her way onto national television and challenges social barriers. With its Tony Award-winning score, explosive choreography and powerful themes of inclusion and visibility, Hairspray stands as the theatrical event of the year.
“Hairspray isn’t just a feel-good musical,” says Kirsten-Lubbe. “It’s about visibility. It’s about voice. It’s still relevant in any part of the world. And it’s about creating theatre that fills the room with energy and purpose. Bringing back this classic hit to a South African stage after more than a decade is both exciting and a privilege.”
Reuniting the creative forces behind Cabaret (2024) and Sweeney Todd – The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2025), the production signals artistic ambition and renewed confidence in large-scale musical theatre.

PETER PAN Jr. — Scenario Youth Production
Auditions: 21 March 2026
Performances: 13 – 15 August 2026
This internationally celebrated musical takes flight as Scenario’s annual youth production.
Performed by the exceptional young artists of Scenario Youth, Peter Pan Jr. forms part of Scenario’s broader mandate: training and showcasing emerging talent within a professional production framework.
“You don’t build an industry by waiting for talent to appear,” says Executive Producer Lian Sachse. “You build it by giving young performers real stages, real standards and real responsibility. Peter Pan Jr. is part of that vision.”
Open auditions for Grades 4–12 will take place on 21 March 2026, with registrations opening on 23 February 2026.

DIE AVONTURE VAN PINOCCHIO

Adventure begins with a single wish.
In 2026, Scenario Productions presents a vibrant new Afrikaans stage adaptation of Die Avonture van Pinocchio, an imaginative and energetic family production designed to captivate first-time theatre audiences and seasoned theatre-goers alike.
When Gepetto’s wish is granted and a wooden puppet springs to life, Pinocchio embarks on dazzling circus encounters, risky detours and choices with real consequences. His journey becomes one of transformation – discovering integrity, courage and what it truly means to become “real.”
Created by the team behind sold-out children’s hits including Gouelokkies – Sprokieland Speurder, Avonture van Oz and Jan en die Boontjierank – Die Pantomime, the production continues Scenario’s mission to elevate Afrikaans children’s theatre through bold staging and meaningful storytelling.
HANSEL & GRETEL

Scenario reimagines the beloved fairytale with a bold contemporary twist. In this version, Hansel and Gretel’s mother guards a legendary secret recipe and the Witch wants it. Not simply the children. The recipe.
Fast-paced, funny and filled with music and sweetness (with a strategic bite), the production promises theatrical precision and delicious suspense for the whole family.
Scenario’s original Afrikaans production INGRID – ’N VLAM IN DIE SNEEU continues its national tour in 2026 following sold-out seasons nationwide, with confirmed appearances at Oppiwater Kunstefees and the Clarence Arts Festival.
Additional tour dates will be announced.
The production remains one of Scenario Productions’ most significant original works – reinforcing its growing national footprint.
In partnership with the ATKV, Scenario also presents B IS VIR BOELIE, an original educational production addressing bullying, touring schools nationally and appearing at Innibos Kunstefees – expanding the company’s impact beyond the theatre building.

The 2026 Season reflects Scenario Productions’ continued evolution as a production house and theatre ecosystem – balancing large-scale musical theatre, nationally touring original work and meaningful youth development.
