A quiet indie-pop gut-punch, as heard in Mädchen Mädchen (Netflix Germany)

Following the success of her debut single Slowburner (Top 5 SA Indie Chart), South African-born indie artist meelu returns with her second release, hi “love”, delivering a stripped-back, emotionally raw indie-folk track that captures the fragile space between devotion and invisibility.
Written on a rainy day in Berlin, hi “love” is an intimate indie-pop gut punch that explores what it feels like to be hidden inside someone else’s world. meelu describes it as “a song for the version of you that keeps trying, even when someone won’t meet you halfway.” Built on ambient textures, layered harmonies, and restrained acoustic production, the track sits in that tender space between intimacy and frustration, echoing the quiet intensity of Sharon Van Etten, Big Thief, and Phoebe Bridgers.
The song’s music video, releasing on the same day, continues the DIY, deeply personal aesthetic that meelu has become known for. Shot by creator Ruben Barkhuizen during a spontaneous mini road trip, the video features just the two of them with Ruben behind the lens, and meelu experimenting with simple, playful looks. The result feels raw, sun-kissed, and unfiltered, like stepping back into your own warmth after a long season of grey.

In a major milestone, hi “love” is also featured in the new German feature film Mädchen Mädchen, currently in cinemas and streaming on Netflix Germany which marks meelu’s first international sync placement.
Despite being only a year into the project and releasing her first single just months ago, meelu has already built an impressive live résumé, performing at major festivals and sharing stages with leading international acts.
