Margit Meyer-Rödenbeck, better known as Dowwe Dolla, will be playing with Ouma is op pad at Emperors Palace’s Theatre of Marcellus on Sunday, 24 August at 15:00.  Ouma says she and Dowwe Dolla retired at the same time. Ouma is op pad was written by Jurgen Human and is based on the grandmother of the ever-popular character, Dowwe Dolla.  “Coenraad Rall is the strummer on the piano,” says Ouma.  “And boy, that man can strum that piano!”  Bookings for Ouma is op pad can be made at www.LTickets.co.za, (011) 815-3000 or at www.lefra.com.  Ouma is op pad is presented with the kind cooperation of Ambassador Execudrive, BluBlood, Britz Couriers & Removals, Feeste.net, Hollywood Costumes, LTickets, Lift Airlines, Mannah Guesthouse and Conference Centre, Mobilis Auto, RSG, Van Loveren and WS Pianos.

Margit says that as you get older, the less time there is to beat around the bush and be polite.  “That’s why I find freedom and fearlessness when I’m on stage,” she says.  “Ouma has a lot of wisdom, and we need to listen to the wisdom of older people.  I don’t want to be preachy, but I was guilty myself when my father was still alive.  I just thought… come on, talk faster now, finish your story and now I really regret it, because he was a wise man and I owe him a lot.”

Ouma says that love is important.  “I had three husbands, and I buried all three of them.  I think the last one just fell asleep.  But as I say, love is important.  However, the most important thing of all is that you have to love yourself,” says Ouma.  She hails from Garries in the Northern Cape.  “There on the Knersvlakte, we don’t have the luxury to beat around the bush.  No man, we call a spade a spade!  Straightforward!  And then we laugh a lot.  Laughter is good.  That’s why you should come and see my show.  Laughter is important, but a quick shot every now and then makes life just a little lighter as well.  I always carry my little flask with me, because I never know when people are going to offer me something,” says Ouma.
