Texx and the City’s new event series, On The Record powered by Shure, is all about celebrating the symbiosis of Music & Storytelling, centring each performance around the artist’s rich discography and the storytelling element attached to it. On Thursday 5 September, beloved pop singer-songwriter Majozi will take over The Outlore Base in Cape Town, to walk us through his illustrious career.
“I’m actually really excited to go through my discography of 10 years,” Majozi says. “I’m going to use this opportunity to share some stories that I never get to share, as well as revisit some old songs that I haven’t played in years. This isn’t just gonna be a straight up show! It’s gonna be an experience for all of us!”
This is a once-off show that aims to spotlight the richness of Majozi’s discography, as well as his contribution to South Africa’s musical landscape off the back of the release of his new single and video for TIME TRAVELLER off his critically acclaimed album A Great Exchange.
TIME TRAVELLER introduces a different sound for MAJOZI, leaning into the synth-pop genre.
“This is definitely a different sound from me. So if you are a fan of synth-pop, then hopefully you’ll enjoy this,” he said. Alongside the single, he is also releasing the music video and a variety of versions of TIME TRAVELLER on Friday 30 August – namely a live version, a sped-up version, a slowed-down version, an instrumental version and an acapella version – all offering a distinct energy compared to the original.
“The live version specifically is really fun. It’s always a good time getting to play live with my friends, and I think that energy translates in the live recording. There’s a little more guitar on this one as well, and it sounds great,” MAJOZI added.
