THE MULTI-AWARD WINNING PRODUCTION “THE KING OF BROKEN THINGS” ARRIVES AT THE ICONIC MARKET THEATRE

Get ready for a magical journey as “The King of Broken Things” comes to the renowned Market Theatre in Johannesburg after wracking up awards across the country. The multi-award winning production that has just enjoyed rave responses in Cape Town, now comes to Johannesburg for a strictly limited run from 5 to 23 June. Audiences will be transported into a charming and deeply moving world of adventure through the eyes of a teenage boy as they explore the rehabilitation of broken objects and hearts alike.

Written and directed by the visionary Michael Taylor-Broderick, and featuring the brilliant Cara Roberts in the solo role, “The King of Broken Things” is nothing short of a theatrical masterpiece that has been captivating hearts and minds across South Africa and beyond. Amongst its many accolades are a Gold Standard Bank Ovation Award at last year’s National Arts Festival, a Toyota Woordfees Award in the family theatre category, a Fleur Du Cap Award nomination for Best Production for Children and Young Audiences, and 3 international awards at the Golden Dolphin International Puppet Festival.

This bittersweet story of loss and longing is an invitation to experience the world through the unfiltered lens of a wise child, offering profound insights into the human experience. The heartwarming one-person play draws on ancient Japanese traditions, mythology, and the power of dreams, serving as a poignant reminder of the magic that surrounds us and the importance of empathy in a fractured world.
