Six years ago, Jacaranda FM introduced a boy (Stefan Benz – now a poplar L.A. based singer) with a dream to sing to the biggest stage he had ever been on. He bravely opened Jacaranda Day 2017 – the youngest ever performer to do so.
Fast forward to 2023 and Martin Bester has been low key scouting for undiscovered musicians to introduce to Mzansi at Jacaranda Day captured by HUAWEI P60 Pro this coming weekend. “Our ears and hearts are better for it” he says as he announces the two acts he will be giving the opportunity to open Jacaranda Day 2023.
Jeremiah Sibiya, a 22-year old petrol attendant from Boksburg went viral on social media when videos of him signing to motorists filling up their cars.
Joining him is Kutlwano Yika, a young busker who was first spotted on a Facebook group ‘I Love Fourways’ where many Jacaranda FM listeners are from. After also joining Martin on his Breakfast show, Kutlwano no longer busks, but plays his soul-stirring songs at Prison Break Market where he is a paid musician.
After tugging at heart strings of listeners when they appeared on Breakfast With Martin Bester earlier this year, Martin couldn’t wait to make their dreams come true – and Jacaranda Day 2023 will certainly be a day they will never forget.
No one can deny the power of community and culture and giving talented people the opportunity to shine is something Martin Bester and the Jacaranda FM family as incredibly passionate about. Jacaranda Day captured by HUAWEI P60 Pro will take place at Idle Wild Country Estate, Centurion, on Saturday, 12 August 2023 and limited tickets are still available from www.jacarandafm.com. Gates open at 10h00, the show starts at 11h00 and ends at 20h30.
