Louise Carver, SA’s most loved female singer-songwriter, announces the release date of her next studio album ‘Dark Secrets’ and makes the album available for pre-save through Gallo Record Company.

Louise Carver has a collection of incredible albums and singles crossing the span of her immense career. She adds to this catalogue of great music as she announces the release of her next studio album ‘Dark Secrets’ on Friday the 14th of October. With the announcement, she also makes the album available to pre-save HERE.

Carver has eagerly been awaiting the release of her next album, especially after unveiling the tracks ‘Take My Hand’ and ‘Nothing Feels Good Without You’ as the two lead singles from ‘Dark Secrets’. “I am so excited for people to hear ‘Dark Secrets’ and take it into their own lives. After the tough times we have all been through, I would love this album to get us out of our leisure wear and into something a little more sexy!”

Carver now also reveals the opening track ‘Summerdaze’, which she selected specially from the album for fans to listen to. Speaking about the inspiration for the single, Carver comments “I had the most amazing summer night in Durban a while ago before the pandemic began, with this charming man and we talked till the early hours. It was a warm night and the conversation and drinks were flowing – I felt alive, feminine and sexy. When Covid hit and I started to work on my new album, I wrote from a place of desire – I looked back at that night and wanted to remember it forever, so I wrote ‘Summerdaze’.”

Carver explains why this single is so special to her, saying “Often the gentler songs get overlooked on an album and I wanted to put a spotlight on it, as I think it will become a fan favourite. Hopefully people will add it to their ‘relax and unwind’ playlists and when it comes on, remind them to exhale and reminisce over carefree summer nights.”

‘Summerdaze’ was produced by the talented Simphiwe Kulla (from The Muffinz) who also produced Carver’s first single release of 2022, ‘Take My Hand’. From writing to production, the single had a tremendous transformation. Did Carver envision this final sound when she wrote it? “Actually no, it took on a completely different journey. I had another more pop producer in mind for this song but, by his own admission, he couldn’t quite get it. Simz was in the room waiting to start on another product and I asked him if he wanted to produce it. I was listening to a lot of Sjava and Sun El Musician at the time, so I asked Simz to give me a sexy groove that was not dominating. The lyrics/story must unravel against the backdrop of this peaceful, warm beat. It’s a song that never demands you pay attention, rather, it gently pulls you in. In the beginning of the song, we added in a sound clip of a typically happy day on the beach, with children laughing and the simple ebb and flow of the waves to set the tone. I sing this song very gently, holding back, as I want you to lean in.”

‘Dark Secrets’ as an album explores themes of sensuality, fantasy, desire and of course much needed fun, as experienced in the happy single, ‘Take My Hand’. Carver worked with the incredible Audio Militia production house in Joburg, who introduced her to different producers from different musical genres. “I had a strong vision for ‘Dark Secrets’ and everyone who I chose to work with, understood the more dreamy, sophisticated pop approach I was after,” explains Carver. Fans are in for an extraordinary treat when the album drops on October 14th.
