SAFATA Academy Proudly Announces its 2022 Musical Production, GREASE !

Today SAFATA is proud to announce its 2022 Musical Production – GREASE (Book, Music and Lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey) in association with Dalro. With cheeky characters, pink jackets, leather pants and rock ‘n roll music, this nostalgic hit musical is bound to delight audiences of all ages.

Whilst this iconic story needs no explanation, SAFATA chose to take on the Tony-nominated Broadway Musical to give its students an energetic, fun and professional experience of a lifetime. With rehearsals fully underway, the cast has transformed from thespians to the sassy students of the infamous Rydell High.

“We have tried to incorporate the unique talents of our students wherever we possibly can, to make this a truly personal journey. First-year acting and Filmmaking student, Zoe Chetty has designed our GREASE Announcement poster, and the second-year Performing Arts student, Frederick Fourie, is woodworking the GREASE LIGHTNING car” – explains Dean and Director, Anastasia Amy. “We are thrilled to give the students opportunities to learn and expand through this process and are working closely with our third-year students on the more technical, behind-the-scenes roles to truly prepare them for the industry when they graduate.”

The lead cast members include Reinier van Zyl (Rainy) as the T-Birds pack leader Danny Zuko, Simoné de Jager as the sweet and conservative, turn sexy and daring Sandy Dumbrowski, Chloé Cage as the feisty Betty Rizzo and Lehlohonolo Gumede as bad boy and T-Birds second in command Kenickie.

SAFATA is so excited to stage this mega-hit classical musical this year for our students’ annual musical. We always aim to provide our students with real-life opportunities and experiences whilst they study as experience is key and equally important., I think it’s amazing for our students to take on such an amazing but big production under the leadership of our amazing Dean and Mentors, especially after the theatres suffered so dearly due to COVID. – Expresses Nicho Barnard the production Producer and SAFATA CEO.

The past 3 years have been incredibly tough for the entertainment industry due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “I am so excited that our school gets to embrace the reintroduction of theatres opening up with a fan favourite GREASE.
I am in awe of our students and the mentors that are working tirelessly to showcase their individual talents with such an epic and well-known production – Go GREASE LIGHTNING” – which enthuses SAFATA’s CFO and Grease Co-producer Danielle Bennet.

Ticket Sale Information for SAFATA’s Musical Production GREASE to be announced shortly.
