DJ Cosher and Liam Burger explore the streets of Cape Town in the music video for ‘Sound of Silence’

Following a series of remixed cover song releases that have charted on radio across SA, DJ Cosher returns with another big track as he collaborates with singer-songwriter Liam Burger for a 2022 remix of the classic ‘The Sound of Silence’. Today they unveil the music video for the single.

DJ Cosher, who just had ‘Sound of Silence’ enter the KFM Top 40 at #26 this past Saturday (22 January), chats about how the entire remix release series came about, saying “As a DJ I have found myself loving the idea of blending well known singalong classics with current modern tracks, and I have specifically enjoyed watching people dance and groove to new style productions, while singing along to the familiar vocals I have thrown in. This gave me the idea to approach well-known old-school tracks and create dance covers of them. A few years later and I have started to be commissioned to create remixes or reimagine older songs which has sort of become my speciality.”

With his latest release, he brings in one of SA’s best new singer-songwriters as Liam Burger adds his vocals to ‘Sound of Silence’.

Filmed by acclaimed Director, Danie Nel, the concept was pitched by Danie who drew from the theme of the original song and the message behind it. “The original song has references to New York City at night, yet paints a slightly surreal mental picture of solitude in a massively crowded place. The reworked version is not as melancholy, and definitely not gothic dark, but a sense of introspection is still felt – on a kicking beat!” which was the wording in the introduction of the pitch from Danie.

The music video was filmed mostly around Cape Town on Long and Bree Street and around some quiet alleys and side streets. DJ Cosher looks back at the filming of the video, saying “The shoot was very laid back and organic, there was no storyline or narrative to stick to, so it allowed for a free flowing ‘no wrong answers’ type environment, which I love as a creative.”

Liam Burger joined DJ Cosher for the music video shoot, and while he was initially nervous at the beginning of filming, he quickly settled in after seeing how great the scenes were looking. “I’ve had the privilege of working with DJ Cosher in studio over the last 2 years from a song recording aspect, so now working with DJ Cosher on one of his tracks was an easy transition as we now know each other really well. I have made videos for my own songs in the past, but this was the first time I have experienced making a music video with someone else. DJ Cosher made this transition really easy, informal, relaxed along lots of jokes and fun. I think we captured the mood and theme of the song within the video, but still keeping it light and modern. I’m sure fans of the song will enjoy with new spin on a classic.”
