Journey’s End Vineyards Launches a Brut Reserve Cap Classique.

Journey’s End Vineyards, the boutique winery and vineyard situated on the mountain slopes above Sir Lowry’s Pass Village in the Helderberg basin, has some exciting news to share. Managing Director, Rollo Gabb says, “We are delighted to launch our very first sparkling wine, a Brut Reserve Cap Classique – just in time for Christmas – to celebrate Journey’s End’s 25th anniversary and 50 years of Cap Classique production.”

The Journey’s End team worked closely with the Grier family of Villiera in selecting their NV Brut Reserve Cuvée, made from traditional Champagne grape varieties. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier from cooler climate vineyards in the Stellenbosch appellation.

The grapes were hand-picked early in the season. Whole bunches were pressed very gently in a pneumatic press according to a specialised Champagne pressing programme. Only the finest cuvée was used in the blend and yeast and sugar were then added for a secondary fermentation in the bottle which took 6 weeks, producing the light and magical bubbles. It was subsequently matured in contact with the lees for approximately 18 months, adding texture and complexity of flavour.

This elegant Brut Reserve exhibits vibrant notes of citrus and pear complemented by crushed almonds and creamy biscuit undertones. Full bodied and complex, it is well balanced by fresh zestiness as a result of the naturally racy acidity and delicate fruit. Served well chilled, it is perfect on its own as an aperitif and an ideal partner for oysters. Journey’s End Brut Reserve is a must for any celebration and can age for at least 5 years from date of purchase.  The Journey’s End Cap Classique label also pays tribute to Rollo’s mother, Annie Gabb, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Annie poured 25 years of passion into the farm, creating a wonderful home and leaving a legacy the Gabbs will proudly carry on.

Journey’s End Brut Reserve Cap Classique is available for purchase for R198 at the cellar door, or online at: https://shop.journeysend.co.za/
