The infectious single combines pulsating pop melodies with driving rock guitars, showcasing Craig’s distinct vocals, which are more adventurous and playful than ever. It’s a sonic roller coaster that dives headfirst into the chaos and freedom of being young, celebrating the mistakes we make and the joy of finding humor in life’s wild ride.
While the title might raise some eyebrows, “High, Drunk and Horny” is an unapologetic nod to the wild, reckless abandon of youth. Craig explains the inspiration behind “High, Drunk & Horny” saying, “The lyrics might seem surprising, given how open I’ve been about my struggles with alcohol abuse and drug addiction, but that’s exactly what makes this song so meaningful to me. I write every song based on personal experiences—specific moments and events in my life— and this one is no different. Let’s just say I had plenty of material to work with here!”
“’High, Drunk & Horny’ is for anyone who’s lived on the edge—whether you’re in the middle of wild times or just reminiscing about them,” says Craig. “It’s about embracing your wild side, letting loose, and having a damn good time.“
He goes on to reflect “This track is something I don’t think I would’ve dared to release early in my career, especially as the winner of The Voice South Africa, but it’s personal and raw, yet also a lot of fun, and reflects where I am now as an artist. It’s me being myself in the studio and on stage, no filter. That’s what makes this song special—it’s a little naughty, very in-your-face, and while it might raise some eyebrows, it’s a true reflection of my journey.”
With the release of “High, Drunk & Horny,” Craig Lucas embarks on a thrilling new chapter in his musical journey. This single marks a bold departure from his previous work, showcasing his evolution as an artist and his fearless embrace of authenticity. As an independent artist, Craig has unparalleled creative freedom to explore new sonic territories and connect deeply with his audience.
The creative process for “High, Drunk, and Horny” was a joint effort, the initial spark ignited when Craig Lucas penned the chorus at home in front of the piano. The song gained momentum through contributions from friends and collaborators, including Jethro Tait, who added the main guitar riff, and Jonathan Greyling, who co-wrote the second verse & produced the track.

Craig Lucas, from Clarke Estate on the Cape Flats in Cape Town, has taken an incredible journey in music, rising from humble beginnings to achieve chart-topping success. His breakthrough came in 2017 when he won a reality singing competition, propelling him into the spotlight with his debut single, “I Said This,” which soared to #1 on iTunes, and his follow-up album, RESTLESS, earned him a SAMA nomination for Best Pop Album. Hits like “Smother,” “Hearts Exposed,” “Antisociable,” and “Happy” achieved gold status, and his music has captivated audiences with over 10 million streams.
But behind the scenes, he grappled with his sexuality and mental health, leading to a battle with addiction and a break from music. Now, over two years sober and embracing his queer identity, Craig is back, better and gayer than ever, making music for himself and for those who’ve always felt a bit on the outside—misfits, dreamers, and non-conformists alike.
Craig is currently working on his most personal album yet. Fans can expect a pop-rock roller coaster with electric guitars, thumping drums, and Craig’s powerhouse vocals wrapped in catchy melodies. It tackles tough topics such as depression and substance abuse, and even tougher topics such as his unwavering tendency to repeatedly fall for losers who don’t deserve him! It’s basically therapy you can dance to.
Independent and unstoppable, Craig’s newfound love for music shines through. He’s here to have fun, make great music, make lots of money, spend all that money, and maybe, just maybe, find a sugar daddy to keep the party going. After all, in the wise words of Cyndi Lauper, “gays just wanna have fun!”
