Chanelle Veronique Stead is a name to watch in the fashion industry, and she’s about to take the IATS 2024 stage by storm! With a passion for fashion modeling that started in November 2022, Chanelle has already made a significant impact in the industry.
Chanelle’s journey began when she was scouted by Lisa Owen, director of Models International, through her 6-week model training courses. Since then, she’s been dedicated to honing her craft and making a name for herself in the competitive world of fashion modeling.
The highlight of Chanelle’s career so far has been her exclusive callback for IATS 2024. This prestigious event is a testament to her hard work and dedication, and she’s excited to share her experience with South Africa.
Preparation involves maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and definitely studying the brand or designer’s aesthetic for each specific event. Her attention to detail and commitment to her craft are evident in every aspect of her work.
Working with top designers has been a dream come true for Chanelle. “Their vision and attention to detail elevate the entire creative process,” she says. Her own icons in the industry include Yasmeen Gauri, Gisele Bünchen, Naomi Campbell, and Vlada Roslyakova – legends who have inspired her to work hard and strive for excellence.
Like many models, Chanelle has faced her fair share of challenges. “Dealing with a lot of rejection, especially in the beginning, can be tough,” she admits. “You’ll hear ‘no’ more often than ‘yes.’ Maintaining physical and mental health is also crucial in this industry.”
One of Chanelle’s most memorable experiences was a portfolio shoot with Lauren Oliver, a photographer based in Durban. “I absolutely love her work, and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with her,” she says.
Chanelle’s advice to aspiring models is simple yet powerful: “Stay true to yourself, be persistent, and always maintain a positive attitude. It’s a cutthroat industry, and you shouldn’t take anything personally.”
Balancing personal life with modeling requires effective time management and prioritisation, according to Chanelle . “It’s important to take time for self-care and relaxation,” she emphasises.
Chanelle’s personal style is eclectic and versatile, influenced by her love of different fashion concepts. “I don’t stick to one specific style; I guess I just like what I like,” she says. “One day I wear street style, and the next I just want to dress more cottage core.” This adaptability influences her work, allowing her to bring a unique perspective to different fashion concepts.
In the future, Chanelle aspires to collaborate with more sustainable and inclusive brands, using her platform to promote positive change within the fashion industry. She also hopes to meet and work with some of the supermodels she looks up to, continuing to learn and grow in her craft.
