Since their debut in the music industry, the popular South African band, POSDUIF, has shown that they are not only unique but also determined to push boundaries.
This spring, they continue this trend with the simultaneous release of two brand-new songs that highlight different aspects of the band’s versatility.
According to lead singer and guitarist, James Boland, they decided to release two new songs at once for the first time to emphasize two sides of the band and to show listeners who they really are.
“There are always two sides to POSDUIF. The serious, nostalgic, and family-oriented side that deeply cares, as shown in songs like KAALVOET KINDERS, which reflects who we are at our core. Then there’s the light-hearted, fun side that highlights that we are good company, always up for some fun, and love to laugh and tease our friends, as we do with VOETFOUT,” he explains.
The band consists of Boland (lead singer and guitarist), Nick Jordaan (rhythm guitarist and singer), Amiel Gopal (bass guitarist), Campbell (producer and lead guitarist), and Nick McCreadie on drums.
KAALVOET KINDERS, one of the first singles from their latest album Brandstiger, captures the innocence and adventures of childhood.
This alternative pop track tells the story of how those simple times shape our lives and create lasting memories.
The song was written by Boland and Jordaan, with input from the entire band, and produced by Brendan Campbell.
According to the band, the inspiration for the song comes from the joys and freedom they experienced as children – “the adventures of growing up, playing in the woods, and the life lessons we learned from it.”
“It represents the core of our album, the idea of returning to your roots and the influence of the past on who we are today,” they share.
They also believe that this song will create a strong emotional connection with listeners, as it evokes a sense of simplicity and sincerity that many people will appreciate.
A captivating music video of the single will also be available soon.
In contrast to KAALVOET KINDERS, their second release, VOETFOUT, offers a light-hearted take on the challenges of romance.
This song, also in the alternative pop genre, tells the story of a guy who has to apologize after cheating on his girlfriend. He tries to explain that it was just a “misstep” and that he is still very much in love with her.
This group effort was inspired by a friend of theirs who was in a similar situation. “He kissed a girl one night and deeply regretted it, and had to explain it to his girlfriend,” they share.
It’s a tongue-in-cheek song about seeking forgiveness and the need to make things right.
Many people will relate to the experience of doing something that doesn’t cause great harm but leaves significant guilt afterward.
“Our friend and his girlfriend were in a very new relationship, so we didn’t feel too sorry for him, and in the end, everything was okay,” they add.
POSDUIF was founded in 2018 and made their debut with the song Brandy Special, which garnered over 400 000 hits on social media. Since then, they have released several other hits and were nominated by Bok Radio as Group of the Year and for Song of the Year. Their previous album, Niks Vergelyk, won the SAMA in 2022 for Best Pop Album.
In addition to a number of brand-new songs and collaborations with other artists, fans can also look forward to many tours and performances for the rest of the year, including opening acts for Kip Moore and Dennis Rucker, as well as Kaptein en Vriende at Montecasino in October.
KAALVOET KINDERS and VOETFOUT are now available on all digital streaming platforms.
