Upbeat new praise and worship song by Arnold de Wet sparks joy

Music is a universal language and for many people, worship is synonymous with singing. However, there are very few rousing and joyful praise and worship songs these days. This is something singer-songwriter Arnold de Wet is hoping to change with his latest offering.
PRAISING JESUS is an upbeat praise and worship song, written by Arnold, Johan Vorster and Jacomien de Wet, and was inspired by the music of Ron Kenoly, specifically the song Can’t Stop Praisin’. “Many of the songs being sung in churches today are slow-paced and often quite sad. We wanted to create an upbeat song filled with happiness and joy, something that would raise people up physically and spiritually,” explains Arnold. In addition to its uplifting lyrics, the track features trumpets and violins, arranged by Mathys Maree, which add to its buoyant beat.
With the aim of bringing people together in worship, the music video for PRAISING JESUS, produced by Gerhard van Rooyen, is a recording of a live performance. “We wanted to record a live praise and worship session, so we invited singers and musicians from across the country to join us,” says Arnold. “We met at a theatre in Pretoria and simply joined together in praising the Lord. The result is incredible.”

PRAISING JESUS follows on the hugely successful El Shaddai and This Is Who I Am Without You, both of which were very well received.
The track forms part of Arnold’s upcoming album EIGHT28, which references Romans 8:28: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” The album is due for release in August.
Arnold is the son of the well-known singer Jan de Wet. He grew up in Hartbeespoort, where he was constantly surrounded by talented musicians, which sparked his passion for music. Following the release of an album two decades ago, he took a 17-year hiatus. He recently rediscovered his passion and, after recording the single Run, he crossed paths with Inhoud Huis Musiek, who approached him to form part of their new praise and worship platform, The Shelter.
In addition to finalising his new album, Arnold’s plans for the latter half of 2023 include performing as often as possible and organising more large-scale praise and worship events.
“South Africa is filled with wonderful people who love and worship God. By creating uplifting music like PRAISING JESUS, we want to ignite a flame that sparks joy and raises people up. As we continue to sing and worship, we believe that flame will grow and spread,” concludes Arnold.
