The dynamic duo, Hartklop, renowned for their unique sound and poignant lyrics, has just released a brand-new single, which is already spreading like wildfire.
PROBEER is a rock ballad, written in collaboration with Zulekha Botha, carrying a powerful message of hope, perseverance, and inspiration.
This exceptional song delves into the lives of three friends and the challenging times they have had to overcome.
“We want listeners to connect their own stories to the song, regardless of where they are in life,” they explain.
According to the musicians, the track was born while they were working on another song, and Zanneli was inspired to create the lyrics after Cornel played the melody on his guitar. Zulekha, her best friend and the group’s manager, also provided valuable input.
“We are all divorced, and, in the moment, it felt like the song was about each of our stories and the challenges we faced. It took 42 minutes to write PROBEER, and we were very emotional about the final mix because we realized that the song and the process are very special. We believe that people will resonate with the message and can’t wait to share it with our fans.”
The idea behind the music video, which is now available, was that they both had to be in different places but ultimately had to find their way back to each other again.
It was filmed in the East Rand by Charles Ackerman, who was also involved in the production of their previous videos, and they are grateful that the process was so effortless as they were pressed for time on the day.
“What makes the video unique is that it has a winter feel and shows viewers that there is light at the end of the tunnel despite cold and challenging times. We are very satisfied with the end result and believe that, like this one, the best videos and songs are often created in a short period of time.”

PROBEER is their fourth single and follows in the successful footsteps of Wentelbaan, which was recorded with Abigail Heyns and has had more than 36 000 views on YouTube. Liefling and Jammer were also very well received.
Hartklop, consisting of Cornel Viljoen and Zanneli Casey, is a rock group that was established in July 2022 after Zanneli approached Cornel for help with her music.
From the get-go, it was clear that they shared the same dedication, passion, and dreams, which is why they decided to form a group.
The duo’s name was inspired by one of their original songs and captures the essence of their lives and love for music and also serves as a symbol of hope.
Their music can primarily be described as rock, incorporating elements and sounds from the 80s to create a fresh and unique style that resonates with audiences of all ages.
While they are grateful for each opportunity they have to share their music with people, they are particularly proud of Wentelbaan and also consider sharing the stage with artists like Bernice West, Spoegwolf, Juan Boucher, and Snotkop as significant highlights in their career so far.
The pair also reveals that they would love to work with Bouwer Bosch and Die Heuwels Fantasties someday.
When they are not busy with their day jobs, they are working on seven unfinished songs, and their next single, Briewe, will also be released soon.
In the meantime, they are making an effort to promote themselves on social media by recording video covers of popular songs and sharing them with their fans.
THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE MUSIC…
Cornel Viljoen is a down-to-earth 33-year-old musician and songwriter from Boksburg in the East Rand. He has been working in the music industry for sixteen years and his passion for music was ignited when he attended a concert at the age of fourteen.
Over the years, he has been part of various groups, with Splinter Town being the most prominent, and also released his own single, Ek Weet, which still features on RSG.
Although he didn’t have formal music training, he took guitar and music lessons for a year after school and also taught himself to play the piano and bass guitar.
He has a broad taste in music, with Afrikaans being his favourite, and believes that Die Heuwels Fantasties has had the biggest influence on his own music style.
If he had to choose a different career, he would have loved to be an actor because he enjoys entertaining people and can’t imagine doing anything else.
His involvement in the music industry has taught him never to give up on his dreams and to always aspire to make a difference where possible.
Zanneli Casey is a born musician and has been actively involved in the music industry for the past 23 years.
This 36-year-old singer-songwriter grew up in Meyerton, where her mother taught her to play instruments from a young age, and she currently resides in Boksburg with her three-year-old daughter.
Although she enjoys a wide variety of music, she especially loves punk rock and pop, with Avril Lavigne having the biggest influence on her own music style and fashion.
Because she enjoys music that tell stories, country is also on her list of favourites, and she also admires Ariana Grande’s ability to experiment with her voice.
If she wasn’t a musician, she would love to work with animals (another passion of hers) and create a sanctuary for wild animals.
The music industry has taught her to be true to herself and remain humble, and she believes, like Bob Marley, that music has the ability to evoke different emotions and momentarily make you forget about your problems.
Hartklop enjoys sharing their original work with the world and strives to have a lasting impact on the industry with each song they release. They believe that it is their unique approach and meaningful lyrics that speak to hearts and set them apart from the rest.
“We want to spread hope (and sometimes humour) with our music. Life is challenging enough, and everyone faces difficulties. We also have a unique sound that conveys this message in a special way and allows it to be relatable,” they conclude.
