Over the past nine years, Marcel Dalmayda has become synonymous with the local rock music scene. It, therefore, comes as no surprize that his latest single, KOM KRY VAN MYNE pays homage to this specific genre that he loves so much.
“It’s about the sexual energy that is present in music and the tension people feel when meeting each other for the first time,” he reveals about the meaning behind this classic pop-rock track that he co-wrote and produced with Louwrens Bezuidenhout.
According to the artist, the song was inspired by old school rock and complements his style and voice. “It is something fresh and different in the Afrikaans industry. To me, it is sexy music that combines energy and intention and will appeal to a large audience.”
The music video, which has its roots in the 80’s, primarily focuses on the band. “There is no specific storyline, and the idea was to be real, honest and raw and not to hold anything back,” he explains. It was filmed by Leon Barnardt and Marcel and Louwrens came up with the concept themselves.

KOM KRY VAN MYNE is the artist’s fourth single and follows the release of his previous Afrikaans singles, Dis Hoe Sy Dans and Bly Bietjie Langer, which were very well received and can still be heard on the radio.
Marcel has been working in the music industry professionally since 2013 but made his on-stage debut at a pre-school concert when he was five.
The Pretorian already has an impressive list of career highlights, including making it through to the live shows after an impressive blind audition on The Voice SA in 2016, appearances on Noot vir Noot and Musiek Roulette and many more.
Growing up, the twenty-seven-year-old was surrounded by the music and has always been fond of old school rock bands and musicians like Bon Jovi, Guns N Roses, Aerosmith, Billy Idol, Queen, Def Leppard, AC/DC and Mötley Crüe, which all had an influence on his own style. He also admits that his own life experiences and relationships have been the greatest inspiration behind his lyrics.
He is currently busy working on new music and enjoys being back on stage and socializing with friends after lockdown has been lifted.
Marcel is constantly chasing the next big hit and with KOM KRY VAN MYNE he is well on his way of achieving this dream.
