HOT 102.7FM, Johannesburg’s newest commercial radio station, has once again hosted its annual Teddython fundraiser at Papachinos, Broadacres Shopping Centre in Fourways and this year raised a staggering R19,422,727, beating the R8,9 million raised in 2022.
Two of this year’s significant donations were made by The IIE School of Hospitality & Service Management (IIE HSM) and Capsicum Culinary Studio, both learning institutions in the AdVtech group.
IIE HSM, which offers industry-aligned service and hospitality-focused qualifications, generously pledged three bursaries for the school’s Higher Certificate in Hospitality Management course, along with student uniforms and textbooks, all with a combined value of R176 700. IIE HSM has campuses in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
Capsicum Culinary Studio, South Africa’s largest culinary school, with six campuses across the country, donated hospitality services worth R50 000 with the promise that its highly skilled chefs and student chefs will be dedicated to preparing exceptional dishes for a special occasion to ensure a memorable culinary experience for guests.
Throughout the 12½-hour Teddython, the HOT team manned phone lines, took donations from individuals and companies, participated in challenges and completed a variety of fun stunts, all for a good cause.
Said Renee Hill, Managing Director of Capsicum Culinary Studio and IIE HSM: “We are delighted HOT 102.7FM Teddython raised so much for such a worthy cause, and we were thrilled to have contributed to this amazing effort. We are certain that our donations will be put to good use and will make a difference in the lives of those they affect.”
Said Carmen Rocha, Managing Director of Hot Cares: “Last year we raised R8,9 million and I thought it might be a tall order to beat that this year. But the generosity of HOT 102.7FM listeners and corporate partners never ceases to astound me, and I’m simply blown away by the size of their hearts. This makes everything we do worthwhile.”
Added Lloyd Madurai, Managing Director of HOT 102.7FM: “This is always such a big day for us and an important part of what HOT 102.7FM does. The funds, goods and services raised at the Teddython will allow Hot Cares to continue its work for the next year, including a variety of long-term initiatives, ranging from regular programmes to one-time interventions.”
