Durban artists Sheen Skaiz and Kyle Deutsch reunite alongside renowned producer Sketchy Bongo for the release of their brand-new single, On The Way, available now on all digital streaming platforms as part of Sheen’s debut EP “Big Spoeks Vol. 1“.
Blending elements of Pop, Hip-Hop and R&B, On The Way brings together three artists whose musical journeys have crossed paths for more than a decade. Driven by Kyle Deutsch’s soulful melodies, Sheen Skaiz’s introspective verses and Sketchy Bongo’s polished production, the track explores the highs and lows of modern relationships while holding onto the hope that love can survive life’s inevitable challenges.
At its heart, On The Way is a story of distance, disagreement and reconciliation, capturing the emotional push and pull that defines many relationships.
“This song has been on the way from the first moment Sheen played me the beat some time back,” says Kyle Deutsch. “I loved the groove of this one. One of those that drew the words out with the melody. We wrote the hook and verse in the same session and thought it was dope. Sheen dropped his fire bars, and Sketchy then brought the sauce it needed to polish it off. It’s our first collaboration as the three of us, so this is long overdue. Hopefully the first of many. We hope the listeners enjoy it as much as we enjoyed the process and story behind it.”
For Sheen Skaiz, the song was an opportunity to showcase a different side of his songwriting.
“With On The Way I really went in with my pen,” he explains. “I approached it like a writer in full detail mode. Every bar had to mean something. I was going deep into the push and pull of relationships, the arguments, the distance, the reconciliation, and trying to turn that emotional cycle into real rap craftsmanship. As soon as I linked up with the boys, things just started to flow. It was a long-overdue reunion energy session.”
The collaboration is a fitting meeting of three artists who have each helped shape South Africa’s contemporary music landscape.
Born and raised in Durban, Sheen Skaiz has built a reputation as one of the country’s most versatile creative voices. A rapper, producer, songwriter and visual artist, he has championed authenticity and cultural representation throughout his career, blending global influences with a distinctly South African perspective. From winning Jägermeister’s Back the Artist competition to achieving a #1 hit on 5FM with Get Right, Skaiz has collaborated with industry heavyweights including Kwesta, Tellaman, Big Star Johnson, DJ Hi-Tek and Sketchy Bongo, earning a SAMA nomination along the way.
Kyle Deutsch first captured the nation’s attention as a finalist on South African Idols before establishing himself as one of the country’s most recognisable pop voices. Over the years, he has released a string of hit records and collaborated with some of Africa’s biggest names, including Cassper Nyovest, Khuli Chana, Shekhinah, Kwesta, Kelly Khumalo, DJ Fresh, DJ Kent, Distruction Boyz and Sketchy Bongo. His music continues to find audiences far beyond South Africa’s borders, with strong streaming growth across Europe and the Americas and viral chart success in the Netherlands and France during 2025.
Adding the finishing touches to the record is Sketchy Bongo, one of South Africa’s most influential producers and creative visionaries. Renowned for his ability to blend genres and create chart-topping hits, his signature production style provides the perfect backdrop for the emotional storytelling at the centre of On The Way.
While the track marks the first official collaboration between the trio, it feels like the natural continuation of friendships and creative partnerships built over many years. The chemistry is effortless, the storytelling authentic and the message universal.
