The popular kykNET morning show, ontbytSAKE, in collaboration with World Leisure Holidays, visited the beautiful island of Mauritius at the beginning of July. The team stayed at the Anantara Iko Mauritius Resort and filmed several segments in and around the resort.
The team took part in various activities offered by the resort, including forest yoga and a sunset hike along the Bluebay Trail. The beach offers a peaceful and relaxing setting for a jog or early morning walk at sunrise, and the blue waters are perfect for water sports like diving, snorkeling, or exploring the marine park.

The ontbytSAKE team also joined Chef James from Anantara on a local market shopping trip for the resort’s Spice Spoons Experience. Guests purchase their own ingredients, taste local street food, explore the sights, and then return to the hotel to prepare a meal with what they’ve bought.
The Mauritius Tourism Authority treated the ontbytSAKE team to a trip to Chamarel to experience the award-winning Rhumerie de Chamarel’s distillation process and enjoy a rum tasting from their collection. They also visited the 7 Coloured Earth Geopark and the Chamarel Waterfall.
Although Mauritius is known for its sugarcane plantations used in rum production, the island also boasts a rich tea-growing history dating back to 1765. The team visited the Bois Chéri Tea Plantation near Mahebourg — the oldest and largest tea producer on the island and a key stop on Mauritius’ famous Tea Route.
“Experiencing a destination when you travel has a lot to do with how the people treat you. Besides the luxury of the Anantara Iko Resort (and don’t get me wrong, it’s an absolute treat to be spoiled), the people of Mauritius are courteous and genuinely warm. It’s not a forced friendliness. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome. And they’re proud of their country. You feel it on the street. And the local beer suits my taste buds just fine. Thank you, World Leisure Holidays, for this treat,” says Leon Gropp, one of the presenters.
“Some destinations can only be described by experiencing them… this is one of them!” says Louis Mclaren, Executive Producer of ontbytSAKE.
“It’s a great privilege for World Leisure Holidays (WLH) to partner with kykNET’s top weekly morning show. We believe the viewers will thoroughly enjoy the ontbytSAKE episode and discover what the island has to offer,” says Elaine Durr, Operations Director of the esteemed tour operator.
The Mauritius special episode will be broadcast on Saturday, 26 July 2025 on kykNET (Channel 144) at 07h30.
