When Robbie Wessels started challenging Francois van Coke on social media a couple of weeks ago, fans were looking forward to a boxing match announcement, but instead we are now treated to some rugby sparring in the form of “Bokbefok”.
So, this is how this story goes:
Liefde by die Dam asked Francois van Coke and Robbie Wessels to perform “Leeuloop” together at their festival, and so they have performed this classic together several times. Francois is a big fan of Robbie’s “Leeuloop”, so for him this was always an honour.
So, the next logical step was to write a song together. “Both of us are huge rugby fans, so it turned out to be a rugby song,” says Francois.

Robbie came up with the title “Bokbefok”.
Francois asked Robbie: “I’m down with the title ‘Bokbefok’, because I’m in a band called Fokofpolisiekar. But are YOU ready?”
Robbie’s response? “I’m ready.”
Robbie Wessels adds: “If you take the song ‘Hie’ Kommie Bokke’ and you multiply it with ‘Die Bloubul’ song and you multiply it with ‘We are the Champions’, you are still not even close to the ‘biggest rugby song of all time’ that has just arrived.”
