South African music icon Louise Carver is back with a fresh dose of feel-good pop: her brand-new single ‘Crush On You’, accompanied by a vibrant and nostalgic music video that perfectly captures the song’s playful energy.
Marking her first release since winning her first-ever South African Music Award (SAMA) in 2023 for Best Adult Contemporary Album with the acclaimed ‘Dark Secrets’, ‘Crush On You’ sees Carver return to the spotlight with a sparkling sound that blends the retro shimmer of late-70s synth pop with her unmistakable vocals and emotive storytelling.
Produced by longtime friend and collaborator Simz Kulla, the track is a joyful nod to the golden era of Blondie-esque disco pop, brimming with infectious grooves and Carver’s signature lyrical honesty. “‘Crush On You’ was inspired by that electric feeling of having a crush—the butterflies, the irrational urge to be near someone, even if they’re out of reach,” Carver explains. “I wanted the production to feel sexy and fun, with a nostalgic touch.”
The collaboration with Kulla proved a natural fit. “Simz understands my voice and storytelling on a deep level. We had such joy working on this song together, and making the music video was just as exciting—huge thanks to Jeep South Africa for lending me one of only two pink Jeeps in the country!”
Carver also announces a new partnership with CCA, marking an exciting new chapter in her career. “It’s an incredible feeling to work with a team who really get you as an artist,” she says.
The ‘Crush On You’ music video, dropping alongside the single, brings the song’s vibrant aesthetic to life with retro fashion, a bold colour palette, and an infectious sense of joy. “I hope this song lightens the load of the world just a little and reminds people of the magic of crushes—past, present, and those still to come.”
