South African-born indie rock artist SonOfOld—aka acclaimed singer-songwriter Nic Olsen—is bringing his internationally praised sound to Cape Town for one night only at Café Roux in Noordhoek on Sunday, 27 April.
Now based in Munich, Germany, Olsen is returning to his roots with an intimate performance in support of his latest album, Echoes from a Silent Hill (2024), which spent over 11 weeks on the Austrian Indie charts, peaking at No. 2. This is a rare chance for fans to catch him live in an up-close setting, performing the hauntingly beautiful tracks that have captivated audiences abroad.
Adding to the magic, Nic will be joined on stage by longtime collaborator and Perez bandmate Matt Wilkinson, promising a show full of nostalgia and raw musical energy. Expect a blend of old favourites and new sonic explorations—from the gritty indie rock of their Perez days to the atmospheric layers of Echoes from a Silent Hill.

ABOUT ECHOES FROM A SILENT HILL
Released on September 20, 2024, Echoes from a Silent Hill is a rich tapestry of introspective lyrics, blending alternative rock, folk influences, and atmospheric soundscapes. Produced by the renowned Theo Crous and featuring contributions from Foo Fighters’ keyboardist Rami Jaffee, the album has been praised for its deep, immersive sound and emotionally resonant storytelling.
Featuring contributions from drummer Florian Schanze (L.A. punk band Obliterans) and multi-instrumentalist Rami Jaffee (Foo Fighters), Echoes from a Silent Hill bridges past and present, drawing influences from Beck, Jane’s Addiction, and Neil Young.
A highlight of the album, “Solo” stands out with its stream-of-consciousness lyrics and hypnotic progression. Described by Olsen as a song that “just happened” during a spontaneous recording session, it captures themes of solitude, self-discovery, and belonging. The track’s dreamlike quality is enhanced by Rami Jaffee’s signature keyboard work, creating an anthemic yet intimate listening experience.
