South African singer-songwriter Phil Higgins marks her long-awaited return with the release of her brand-new single, “Yours Truly, Julie”, available now on all major streaming platforms. The heartfelt track, a love letter to those still finding their way, dropped on Valentine’s Day, Friday, February 14, as the first taste of her highly anticipated forthcoming EP, Blue + Green, set for release later this year.
One week later, and Higgins unveils the official music video for “Yours Truly, Julie”, a deeply personal and nostalgic visual companion to the song. Filmed in Vroesenpark, Rotterdam, the video was conceptualized by Higgins herself and shot in an intimate, DIY style with the help of her friends, embracing the raw, authentic energy that defines both the song and her artistry.
“I wanted the music video to feel like a glimpse into someone’s life—like a personal diary entry, capturing a single moment in time,” Higgins shares. “Parts of it represent being present and connected, while others capture the feeling of figuring things out on your own. The video has the same wholesome energy I get from spending a carefree day in the park with my friends, and that’s exactly why I asked them to help me film it and be in it.”
Adding to the charm, the video was shot using a tiny, toy-like camera that belongs to a friend. “We didn’t change any settings before filming, so the timestamp hilariously reads 2019, even though we filmed at the end of 2024. That unexpected touch just made it feel even more like a found memory.”
At its core, “Yours Truly, Julie” is an anthem of hope, change, and the courage to pursue one’s dreams. Inspired by a real letter from someone named Julie, Higgins explains, “I wrote this song after finding her letter saying that she was moving away to chase her dream. Sometimes you have to let people go so they can become who they need to be.”
Blending indie-pop with rich, nostalgic textures, Phil Higgins crafts music that is adventurous, heartfelt, and genre-defying.
