Beloved South African singer-songwriter Amy Jones and her husband, Lee Willcock, are overjoyed to announce the arrival of their son, Asher Barry Willcock. Born on Thursday, 5 December 2024, Asher’s arrival is a celebration of faith, family, and love, marking the culmination of an unforgettable journey for the proud parents.
Reflecting on her pregnancy, Amy shared touching moments from her journey to motherhood.
A Good Friday Revelation
The story began on Good Friday, a day of both spiritual and personal significance. “Lee and I took not one, but four pregnancy tests just to be sure,” Amy recalled with laughter. “We gathered the kids, prayed, and counted to three before looking at the tests together. When I saw it was positive, I literally lost my breath—I couldn’t believe I was about to become a mom.”
Hearing the First Heartbeat
The couple’s first doctor’s appointment was another transformative moment. “When we heard that little heartbeat, I was overwhelmed by the miracle of life,” Amy said. “It was a reminder of the responsibility and privilege of bringing a new life into the world.”
It’s a Boy!
Amy shared the light-hearted story of discovering Asher’s gender. “I was convinced I was having a girl and tried every old wife’s tale to confirm it—including the red cabbage method! But the big reveal came when Joel, our eldest son, kicked a soccer ball that burst into a cloud of blue. It was a moment of pure joy and excitement.”
A Beautiful Birth
Asher was born via emergency C-section after Amy’s body wasn’t ready for natural birth, even six days past his due date. “Though it wasn’t the plan, I leaned into Lee’s love and reassurance,” she shared. “When I heard Asher’s first cry and held him for skin-to-skin, I sang You Are My Sunshine, and he instantly calmed. He recognized the song I’d sung to him every day for nine months—it was magical.”
Amy expressed deep gratitude to the medical staff at Medi-Clinic, whose care made her birthing experience unforgettable.
A New Chapter Begins
Amy and Lee, who are already parents to Cyhann and Joel, are thrilled to welcome Asher into their family. “Seeing Cyhann and Joel bond with their baby brother is heartwarming, and watching Lee become a dad again simply melts my heart,” Amy shared.
Asher’s name, meaning “happy” and “blessed,” embodies the joy he has brought to his family. “He’s our sunshine, a child of God, and a precious gift,” said Amy. “We’re excited to raise him with love, faith, and the support of our incredible community.”
