South African gospel powerhouse, singer, and songwriter, Carlo Abrahams, is leaving an indelible mark on the gospel music scene, sharing his transformative personal testimony through his powerful new single, “Still Standing.” This year, Carlo is set to release an updated version of the song, collaborating with both local and international producers to breathe fresh life into the inspiring anthem. In addition to this release, Carlo has ambitious projects underway, including an upcoming collection of Afrikaans gospel music, expected later this year.
“Still Standing” was originally released in 2015 and marked a deeply personal and emotional journey for Carlo, who wrote the song as he grappled with life’s hardships, especially after his father’s cancer diagnosis. “I never realized then how much this song would be my own lifeline in the challenges I would face,” Carlo reflects. “This song is my testimony. It’s a story of God’s unyielding grace that has kept me strong, even in my lowest moments. I want others to feel the same hope.”
In 2024, Carlo’s career has ascended to new heights with standout performances at major gospel events, such as Gospel Friday at the Nekkies Festival and the beloved South African show Koortjies with Elwira Standili, where he performed “Still Standing.” His journey has even taken him abroad to the United States, where he joined the Covenant Keepers International Alliance and performed at the Holy Convocation alongside Grammy Award-winning gospel legends. “Standing alongside such icons was surreal, especially as part of the Covenant Keepers International Alliance Choir backing Grammy winner Kim Burrell,” he shared. “Moments like these confirm that I’m on the right path.”
The song, Carlo says, speaks to listeners facing trials. “I want people to feel the hope and resilience in ‘Still Standing,’” he explains. “No matter where you find yourself, remember that God is with you, and He will show you the way.”
Beyond his music, Carlo is also pursuing an MBA on scholarship at the Business School of the Netherlands. Reflecting on this accomplishment, he expresses gratitude: “Surely, God is great. This journey has been incredible, and it’s a testament to the power of faith and perseverance.”
