Jacaranda FM’s popular breakfast show, Breakfast with Martin Bester, recently touched down in the Mother City, Cape Town, for a special live broadcast that had Capetonians buzzing. Known for its energetic mix of music, news, and humour, Martin Bester and Philicity Reeken brought their signature energy to Cape Town, creating a memorable morning filled with laughter, engaging conversations, and, of course, a few surprises along the way.
Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis Joins the Show
One of the highlights of the morning was a live interview with Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, who joined Martin Bester on air to talk about the city’s achievements and its ambitious plans for the future. Mayor Hill-Lewis spoke passionately about Cape Town’s success stories, from economic growth to infrastructure development, and gave listeners an insider’s view of what’s in store as the city continues to rise.
Naturally, the conversation wouldn’t be complete without some light-hearted banter. The Mayor and Martin shared laughs over the age-old debate between the Western Cape and Gauteng, particularly when it comes to rugby. Knowing full well that Martin is a die-hard Bulls supporter, the Mayor presented him with a Stormers jersey wrapped in a special blue box, much to the delight of listeners. In return, Martin gifted the Mayor some Jacaranda FM merchandise, ensuring the camaraderie remained strong despite their rugby rivalry.
Good Morning Angels Empowers the Homeless With U-Turn Initiative
In keeping with Jacaranda FM’s dedication to making a difference, Good Morning Angels once again stepped in to support a meaningful cause. This time, the focus was on tackling homelessness, a growing issue in South Africa. Cape Town, in particular, faces significant challenges, with many people struggling on the streets. The team highlighted the important work of U-Turn, an organisation that has spent the past 25 years helping homeless individuals make a true “U-turn” in their lives—from a life of poverty to one of self-sufficiency and fulfilment.
U-Turn’s innovative approach includes Mi-Change vouchers, which can be earned through community service and exchanged for necessities like meals, clothing, showers, and shelter. Those who complete the program are offered rehabilitation, skills training, job placement, and housing support, allowing them to reintegrate into society with dignity. Thanks to U-Turn’s efforts, many people have been able to break free from the cycle of homelessness, addiction, and unemployment.
To further support this life-changing work, the Good Morning Angels Fund donated R50,000 to help U-Turn continue their mission in the Western Cape and Johannesburg. Listeners were also encouraged to contribute by donating clothes or purchasing Mi-Change vouchers to empower the homeless.
With a mix of fun, heartfelt moments, and real social impact, Jacaranda FM’s Breakfast with Martin Bester in Cape Town proved once again why it’s one of South Africa’s most beloved radio shows.
