International Nurses Day serves as a radiant beacon in a world where the dedication and sacrifices of healthcare heroes are both profound and essential. This globally recognised day, celebrated annually on May 12th, stands as a poignant reminder of the pivotal role nurses play in the fabric of society. Commemorating the birth of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, it is a time when people across multiple facilities unite to ensure that devoted nurses receive the heartfelt appreciation they truly deserve.
In celebration of this significant occasion, SD Recruitment and the Caroline Mack Foundation, esteemed leaders in the healthcare sector, have joined hands in a heartfelt mission to honour and celebrate the invaluable contributions of nurses. From May 9th to May 17th, a series of heartfelt activations unfolded across hospitals in the Western Cape and Gauteng, extending the tribute beyond the customary day. More than 1000 nurses were treated to gestures of appreciation, including revitalising smoothies, soothing massages, thoughtful goodie bags, and delightful treats like coffee and muffins, acknowledging their tireless dedication to healthcare.
With over 24 years of experience, SD Recruitment has firmly established itself as a cornerstone in the healthcare sector, particularly in championing the nursing community. Founded by a visionary black female entrepreneur, the company’s core values of inclusivity, integrity, and empowerment drive its unwavering commitment to service excellence and innovation. At the heart of its ethos of giving back lies the Caroline Mack Foundation, named after the compassionate and visionary founder of SD Recruitment, the late Caroline Mack. Since its inception on February 1st, 2023, the foundation has been providing full bursaries to deserving nursing students, nurturing the future generation of healthcare professionals. SD Recruitment proudly sponsors nursing students with books, hostel accommodation, a monthly stipend, and tuition support, with ongoing plans for continued assistance.
“These initiatives were crafted to express gratitude, uplift, and empower the medical community,” says Mmeli Notshulwana, Marketing and Public Relations Manager for SD Recruitment. “From heartfelt tributes to personalised gestures of appreciation, our aim was to make nurses feel genuinely valued and celebrated for their tireless efforts.”
“As we celebrate International Nurses Day, let us honour the legacy of Florence Nightingale and Caroline Mack by supporting and uplifting medical professionals in our community. Through initiatives like the Caroline Mack Foundation, we can empower the next generation of healthcare professionals to continue making a difference in the lives of others,” adds Michelle Marais, the Chief Executive Officer of SD Recruitment.
