Scottburgh’s Enzo Pizzeria Trattoria makes it into the Porcupine Ridge Pizzeria Challenge Top 10 for second year running

Scottburgh’s popular eatery, Enzo Pizzeria Trattoria, has made it into the Porcupine Ridge Pizzeria Challenge Top 10 for a second year running, and still remains the only KwaZulu Natal-based restaurant to feature in this national pizzeria competition.

Owner Enzo Tilli is delighted to have made it into the top 10 again despite stiff competition from around the country.

“I am very grateful for being voted into the top 10 again, and seeing what we’ve been up against, I am pleased to say that we’re hanging in there with the big boys!

“Scottburgh is not a very big place so this is a testament to the staff and the hard work they put in and of course to all our loyal clients who took the time to vote for us. They’ve become like family to us.

“It’s a real proud moment and I hope we can continue to serve some of what we think are the best pizzas!”

So why does Tilli think his pizzas are so good?

“Our pizzas are made in the authentic Neapolitan style, in a wood-burning oven. They have a light and airy base, and we use only the best quality ingredients. We believe that whoever is making the pizza should have lots of love for what they are creating and that their passion is a big part of what makes them so good.”

Tilli says that their best-seller is, without doubt, the Del Greco which has a bacon, feta and fresh avocado topping, but is also quick to point out that they also have four different starter pizzas, three Calzongino choices (foot long, fold over pizzas), six vegetarian pizzas and 19 more other options from which to choose.

And his favourite?

“I still like the classics – a Regina, a quattro stagioni or a simple Margarita with anchovies, but it must have a thin, light base must always be cooked in a wood-burning oven so that it gets slightly charred on the bottom.”

The winner of this year’s Porcupine Ridge Pizzeria Challenge was Gino’s which is based in Robertsham, Johannesburg. It unseated last year’s winner Ferdinando’s (Observatory, Cape Town) which took fourth spot this time round. Others in the top 10 included Lucio’s (Randburg), Julia’s Eatalian (Potchefstroom), Corlie’s Italian (Paardevlei, Cape Town), Piccola Rossa (Benoni), Mooiuitsig Kombuis (Groot Brakrivier), Gino’s (Stellenbosch) and Osteria Rossa (Bedfordview).
