Johannesburg radio station HOT 102.7FM has warmed up for its annual Teddython charity fundraiser by hosting a successful inaugural golf day that raised hundreds of thousands of rands.
The HOT 102.7FM Golf Day in aid of Hot Cares, powered by Tsogo Sun, was hosted by Steyn City on 14 September, with the station broadcasting live from the golf course throughout the day, before a memorable fundraising dinner wrapped up the day’s proceedings, as revellers partied into the night!
It all started, though, with Tsogo Sun generously coming onboard as headline sponsor and the fourballs for the golf day selling out in less than 24 hours.
“We were blown away by the response and interest in our very first golf day, which just speaks to the power of the HOT 102.7FM brand and what impact the station has made in a little over two years of being on air,” said Lloyd Madurai, Managing Director of HOT 102.7FM. “But, this is just the start and we plan to grow this golf day into an even bigger event going forward, as it’s an important Hot Cares fundraising tool and a really fun day on which to spend some quality time with our partners.”
Those partners on the day included Garmin, Midea, Bose, Toshiba, Loch Lomond, Jenna Clifford, Kyocera, Global Golf, MCC Aviation, and The Courier Guy.
The golf day field enjoyed a great day out on the championship Steyn City layout and plenty of fun was had, in between spot interviews out on the course with roving HOT 102.7FM sports reporter, Dylan Rogers. After some post-round drinks at the clubhouse, the golfers retired to The Shed, where they were spoilt with an evening of unrivalled entertainment featuring a host of great South African acts, including PJ Powers, Graeme Watkins, Timothy Moloi, Marc Alex, Ard Matthews, and Brent Harris and Thee Jam.
HOT 102.7FM also raffled three stunning travel prizes generously donated by Safari Craftsmen, Airlink, and Nascer do Sol, before a thrilling auction hosted by Barney Girnun of Mscsports and featuring some high-value items, donated by MSC Cruises and Mscsports.
There was also an auction item that really pulled on the heartstrings – the one-of-a-kind portrait of late-HOT 102.7FM presenter Mark Pilgrim made out of 300 Rubik’s Cubes, which went for a whopping R85 000, with HOT 102.7FM presenter, Carolyn Steyn, putting in the winning bid. She then stood up and told everyone that “Mark is coming home to HOT House”, before donating the portrait back to the radio station.
“Carolyn’s generosity is just a great example of what the HOT 102.7FM golf day and Hot Cares are all about,” said Madurai. “It’s about putting the needs of others ahead of our own, as we look to make a meaningful difference to the lives of those around us.”
HOT 102.7FM will continue to raise money for those in need when its annual Teddython fundraiser takes place at Papachinos Broadacres in Johannesburg on Thursday the 26th of October.
The station will broadcast live from there for the day, with its entire team manning phone lines and taking pledges and donations from individuals and companies, participating in fun challenges, and completing a variety of fun stunts, all for a good cause.
