Beloved and award-winning singer-songwriter, Jannie du Toit, is one of this year’s special guests at Pretoria FM’s prestigious Aitsa Afrikaans Music Awards, taking place on 19 September 2023 at the Choose Life Auditorium in Pretoria.
Du Toit, who had his first professional stage performance in 1971 and gained fame in 1979, will be honoured during this glamorous event for his lifelong contribution to the local music industry.
“What an honour and splendid encouragement for the way forward,” he says about this exceptional award that will soon be bestowed upon him.
Apart from the awards ceremony, the versatile artist has a few other exciting highlights on his calendar for the remainder of the year.
On 24 September, he will be performing a very special Heritage Day concert titled Die Musiek van Jannie en Christa, alongside the FAK Youth Symphony Orchestra at the Voortrekker Monument’s Heldesaal.
This concert, under the direction of conductor Jaco van Staden, will commence at 16:00, with admission prices set at R200 per adult and R100 per child.

On 4 and 5 October 2023, Jannie will feature at Aardklop with his brand-new production, Margaretastraat.
During this captivating performance, he will relive the legendary music evenings from 1981/82 at his home at 28 Margaretastraat in Pretoria, accompanied by his regular pianist of the past decade – the exceptionally talented Chanie Jonker.
Not only will he portray that iconic period from the late seventies, known as “Musiek en liriek”, and beyond, but he will also infuse the narrative with the music of those memorable evenings, featuring stalwarts like Koos Doep, Lucas Maree, Coenie de Villiers, Anneli van Rooyen, Janita Claassen, Marietjie Stoop, as well as some lesser-known singers and songwriters.
Tickets are priced at R160 per person (R140 for pensioners) and can be purchased here: https://www.ticketpros.co.za/portal/web/index.php/parent_event/30fecd4c-051e-fa64-1734-647a07de390f.
During the Toyota US Woordfees, taking place from 7 to 15 October 2023 in Stellenbosch, Jannie will celebrate the work of his longtime friend, Marie Tredoux, with the stage production, Die maan deur ’n gaatjie in die nag (The moon through a peep-hole in the night).
With the assistance of Chanie Jonker (piano and accordion) and Annelie du Plessis-Hoberg (flute), Jannie (voice and guitar) will introduce the audience to this Jacobsbaai legend who turned ninety-four this month and continues to write heartfelt songs. She is particularly known for the poignant Jacobsbaai se Aandlied, included in the new FAK Songbook, Mis oor Jacobsbaai, recorded by Laurika Rauch, and Regte Ou Kaapse Reën, which is popular among choirs.
Marie’s songs remind you of street cafes in Paris or a nostalgic Dutch sea shanty. The spoken text for the stage production was written by her friend, Dana Snyman, a former resident of Jacobsbaai.

Jannie du Toit has been leaving a lasting impact on the local industry for decades and shows no signs of stopping as he continues to enchant audiences with his unique music and talent.
