With the aim of bringing music to the dancefloor which sends an important message to the listeners too, John Lundun and Paradise Sound System present the Aries EP, a body of work crafted for both the mind and the heart.
Born in Polokwane, Limpopo, John Lundun holds a lifelong connection to music which began with his introduction to piano and guitar by his own father. Having crafted and developed his sound over the years, he has earned four Limpopo Music Awards nominations, and worked with the likes of Grammy nominated producer QuietMoneyMusic, as well as stand out voices including Kwesta, Samthing Soweto and Kid X.
Aries EP delivers a resounding message of achievement, overcoming, and the power of collaboration. The ram, which is the token of the Aries zodiac sign, represents all that, too. The EP is a compelling reminder for people to know their own position of power and to never back down. Driven by powerful dance beats, infectious house textures and heavenly vocals delivered by his collaborators Jessica LM, Thando Zide, and Fifi Matsho, the project will touch listeners’ hearts with its intuitive balance of Afro and western sound.

The lead single “Crown”, featuring Jessica LM is a love letter to the queens who take a stand in their own lives in the wake of a personal downfall. It’s a searing clarion call to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and put that crown back on. In a similar vein, “One Day” channels enduring positivity in the face of life’s many pitfalls. “One day re tlo popa” is a common phrase in Pretoria which translates as “One day we’re going to win. Things are going to be alright”.
“Ngiyabonga” is a tribute to John Lundun’s upbringing, delivered in Fifi Matsho’s gorgeous timbre. The track is a reminder that parenthood, while beautiful, plunges one into the unknown territory replete with challenges, mistakes, and triumphs, and serves as an ode from child to parent in recognition of this.
John Lundun exhibits expert sonic balance, restraint and versatility in his Aries EP, resulting in a bite-sized project that delivers on all fronts.
“Whenever these songs drop on the dance floor in various public spaces you can just see people’s eyes popping and heads turning,” says Lundun of the EP. “People are so drawn to the music and the want to know who is behind the music so they can keep it to themselves, that is always a good sign for any creator, it gives you surely and confidence that you are music in the right spaces and making a difference to world and ultimately to people’s lives.”
