Ziggy Alberts opens the year by revealing a new music video for his album title track, ‘DANCING IN THE DARK’. Filmed along the captivating and immersive Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia, the video captures a once-in-a-lifetime experience in the deep beauty of its reef and seascapes.
This video, filmed by ocean videographer Andre Rerekura, captures Ziggy in genuine emotion and reflective stillness whilst he explores the depths of the reef. It takes you on a journey and surprises you with dreamlike interactions with the beautiful sea life the Ningaloo has to offer.
The Ningaloo is a World Heritage Site on Australia’s north-western coastline where the desert meets the sea. The coastline (Nyinggulu thanardi ngarrari) contains a high diversity of habitats including coral reefs, lagoons, sandy beaches, estuaries and mangroves. Currently, initiatives led by various organisations such as Protect Ningaloo, aim to protect, raise awareness and engage conservation efforts for the Ningaloo Reef, Range and Gulf.
We acknowledge Baiyungu, Thalanyji and Yinikurtura People as the original custodians of the land and Water of the Nyinggulu Coast.

The title track ‘DANCING IN THE DARK,’ in Alberts’ words, “is the crowning achievement” for the ‘future folk’ concept his latest album seeks to capture. The song was penned as a reminder to inspire courage and lightness in the face of sadness and chaos.
Ziggy’s most recent full-length studio album, ‘DANCING IN THE DARK’, sits in a genre – self-titled by Ziggy – as “Future Folk”. In his own words, “the album is a blend of the honest and raw, with the smoothness and touch of synthesised soundscapes, intentional tuning and programmed organic samples… that reflects accurately the range of experiences we are having as humans in our current world.” Matched with Ziggy’s storytelling and sincere songwriting, the new record shows yet another step in Alberts’ growth as an artist, his music and personal explorations, both introspectively and in the natural world.
Founder of his independent label, Commonfolk Records, and book publishing house, Commonfolk Publishing, Ziggy Alberts has managed to craft what many musicians and authors dream of – the ability to tell a story on their own terms. In 2022, Ziggy was awarded an APRA for his track letting go and has also earned ARIA Platinum certifications for Laps Around The Sun (Double Platinum), Gone, Runaway, Heaven, Love Me Now, Stronger and Four Feet in the Forest (EP), plus Gold certifications for his Laps Around The Sun album and six tracks in his catalogue.
