Cape Town is peppered with quintessential heritage sites that flavour the melting pot of landscapes, cultures, and cuisines that make the Mother City an iconic, must-visit travel destination.
As a 340-year-old heritage brand, with long-held core values of social and economic upliftment, Steenberg Farm understands the significance that such heritage sites hold. While also appreciating the community’s responsibility in sustaining them, Managing Director of hospitality, Catherine Schulze commented, “Steenberg’s partners care about the greater community, in restoring iconic landmarks, and providing economic opportunity and enjoyment for all”.
That is why Steenberg Hotel & Spa is taking a supportive stance and proudly partnering with The Beach Hut Trust and Craig Hinds – frontman of South Africa’s award-winning acoustic rock band, Watershed – to bring you an intimate evening concert in aid of the #SaveOurBeachHuts campaign on Sunday, 20 November. All ticket sales for the event will be donated to The Beach Hut Trust.
The Beach Hut Trust is a public trust established in 2020 to address the disrepair and threat of removal of Cape Town’s colourful strip of characteristic structures located along Muizenberg beach – a much-loved attraction and photo-op that most tourists don’t dare leave Cape Town without capturing.
The Beach Hut Trust launched the #SaveOurBeachHuts campaign in a bid to raise funds through events, merchandise, and programmes to realise the trust’s four-phase restoration process. This process includes creating awareness, repairing, maintaining, and managing the Beach Huts to be used and enjoyed safely by all families in the future.
“Around the world, there are certain heritage sites and tourist attractions that are an essential part of that particular country, town, or city. The colourful Beach Huts on the South Peninsula are exactly this. They contribute enormously to Cape Town being one of the world’s biggest tourist destinations. We can’t lose them!” comments Hinds on his motivation for partnering with the trust.
Hinds will be performing on the Steenberg Hotel lawns and is preparing to keep the show “chilled and acoustic” in a considered complement of the serene Steenberg Farm’s surroundings. Expect the big old hits interspersed with some new songs!
The concert and partnership offer the perfect way to celebrate and welcome summer while supporting the protection and preservation of some of Cape Town’s most iconic structures. Because what would the season be without them?
While our VIP tables on the contemporary Tryn restaurant’s Oak Terrace are already sold out, you can still book to settle on Steenberg Hotel’s lush lawns in a sunset picnic-style experience and soak up Hinds’ relaxing sounds with the Alfresco Picnic Basket for R1400 per couple. Carefully composed by Steenberg’s culinary team, relish in the basket’s delectable selection of artisanal cured meats and local South African cheese; freshly baked artisanal bread; pickles and preserves; sticky chicken wings; chicken liver pâté; hummus; butternut and feta dip; broccoli, sesame, and barley salad; calamansi and berry panna cotta; and chocolate truffles.
Relax into the evening with something to sip on from Steenberg Farm’s sweep of award-winning wines and Cap Classique which will be available for purchase at a designated Steenberg Vineyards stand.
Since this is an intimate evening concert, availability is limited so booking is essential.
