Dominic Neill has topped many an SA Chart with singles “Better Day” and the DJ Kent hit “Love You Still”. He’s back with a brand new single and releases “I’m On The Juice” which is out now across all streaming platforms.
Dominic Neill takes his boldest step yet with his newest single “I’m On The Juice”. The urban pop sound is the first step outside the electronic dance world Neill is known for and kick starts a new pillar in the artist’s sound heading into 2023. Written with and produced by Alexander Hauer (with credits on John Legend, Robin Schulz etc.) a new partnership has been born, which will no doubt lead to even more releases in the future.
“‘I’m on the Juice‘ is a statement for me. I have been away from the SA market for a bit, looking to grow and learn and achieve, and it is so sweet to come back with something that I really believe is good enough and relevant enough. I make music for a lot of different reasons but I made this record because I wanted to and I really really am proud of it,“ says Neill.
Neill first came to prominence in the music industry when he finished 6th in Season 8 of SA Idols at the tender age of 19. He spent a few years finding his feet in the music industry and a chance encounter with young producer Joe Louis through Universal Music Group lead to the birth of a record called “Better Day”. The single went on to be signed and released by the major label and enjoyed both radio play and streaming chart success. Following on from that, Neill then went on to meet South African afro house legend DJ Kent and penned what would catapult him into new heights in the industry. The record “Love You Still” remained in the top 20 of radio play charts for close to two years, subsequently grabbing a South African Music Award nomination for Record Of The Year in 2017.
This success was followed by the release of Dominic Neill‘s debut album “Out Of My League” in the same year. Parallel to the success on home shores, Dominic began establishing connections to Berlin. With his ability to speak the language and his German heritage, this was a natural progression and regular trips to the city for songwriting camps and sessions followed.
Fast forward to 2018 and Neill made the move from Johannesburg to Berlin in order to further bear the fruits of the connections he had made and broaden his horizons. A steady stream of releases with local independent label throughout the next couple of years with WeAreDiamond was the next step when in 2020 larger more successful releases began to emerge. “Almost Love” with James Carter hit 40 million plus streams on Spotify, closely followed by “Dancing In The Corner” with Roxy Tones on 18 million plus streams and a handful of other releases meaning Dom had leant his voice to records with a combined stream count of over 50 million streams in one calendar year and a grand total of almost 200 million.
The next step was to break out of the mould that he has made his own as purely a featured artist on DJ/Producer records and begin to build an artist project again into 2021 and beyond. “Where Do We Go” was the first step in breaking out of this mould and his first solo release since 2017 went on to break into the top 100 radio play chart in Germany. “Dom” as he’s affectionately known then swiftly released “Greener” and “Crazy Love” to similar plaudits subsequently pushing his monthly listenership on Spotify to over 1.2 million, a major milestone for a South African artist.
