CORDELIA WANTS TO BRING HOPE WITH NEW SINGLE

Cordelia has been making waves in the local music industry since 2015 and now she is back in the spotlight with a brand-new single with which she wants to bring hope to those who have lost their loved ones.

ANKER, a commercial pop song written by Rudi Claase, is for anyone who has lost an anchor in their lives, and the singer hopes that it will be a source of comfort in difficult times.

“I want to sing music that makes a difference. ANKER is very special to me and conveys the message I want to share with listeners during these trying times,” explains the 36-year-old Pretorian about why she loves the song. “I want to dedicate it to everyone I have lost that were close to me.”

A music video of the song, produced by Murray Lubbe, is now also available. It was filmed on the beach by Quintessential Photo and Video Worx. “I wanted to keep it simple with footage of me singing on the beach. Rudi Claase went to a lot of trouble to combine meaningful lyrics with a beautiful melody, and I wanted to do it justice,” she says.

ANKER is the star’s third Afrikaans single and follows in the footsteps of her hit, Mal in jou kop. A dance remix of this track was recently released.

Cordelia was born in Edenvale and was adopted at the age of six months. She was raised by her adoptive parents in Fochville and matriculated as head girl at Carletonville High School in 2003.

She impressed local music lovers with the release of her debut album, Breek die Stilte. In 2016 she was nominated for a Huisgenoot Tempo Award (Album of the Year) as well as Maroela Media’s Album of the Year.

The singer wrote and recorded the theme song of the movie, Hartsbegeertes, that was named Spiritual Movie of the Year in 2015. Furthermore, she recorded and performed Petrol en Vuur, written by Vicky Anne Serfontein, for the kykNET Afri-Visie Competition. The singer was also nominated for Finesse magazine’s Feel Good, Do Good Woman of 2015, where she and 10 other women were honoured for the charitable work they do in their communities, and starred in the kykNET series, Sterlopers, as well as the movie, Gebore Talente

Because she is passionate about people and animals, she is often inspired by the stories of those around her. She also admits to loving country music, because she was raised in a home where Jim Reeves was a firm favourite. Tha artist also has great admiration for Mathys Roets and would love to collaborate with him someday.

“I definitely got my love of music from my dad, Louis. He was always singing and playing guitar. Unfortunately, he was killed in a hit and run accident while I was still in school. It has been and is still a difficult thing to proves, but also contributed to who I am today,” she shares.

Cordelia is a mother of one and is busy planning her wedding and hosting Vrouwees is ’n fees– and mother-daughter events. She also plans on performing as much as possible in the next year.

Cordelia believes in music’s ability to heal and speak where words cannot and that is exactly what she wanted to achieve with her latest release.

“The year is almost over, and I want to be an anchor in the lives of those who need me,” she concludes.
